Project Edventure, the Marlborough Afterschool Program, is seeking community members who possess these qualities and believe in the philosophy of learning by doing. Project Edventure is an innovative projected based educational afterschool program that utilizes the expertise and interests of community members through daily enrichment clubs to promote S.T.E.M. learning, encourage collaborative work, develop critical thinking and social skills, and stimulate creativity.

We are currently looking for a Program Leader to lead these enrichment clubs. This is a part-time position with the hours of 2:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. Monday through Friday (school days) at Marlborough School. This is a position for you if you enjoy working with elementary and middle school-aged children and need a part-time position. The pay rate is $14.00 per hour.

The Program Leader is responsible for the planning and implementation of clubs in the afterschool program. The instructor should have some expertise in the activity they are leading and knowledge of the developmental needs of students. The Program Leader is responsible for daily interactions with students, families and teachers and is responsible for the safety and well-being of all students who attend the afterschool program.

Specific Responsibilities:
  • Takes attendance daily
  • Snack preparation and cleanup
  • Works with students during homework time to ensure all needs are being met on an individualized level
  • Communicates all needs including supplies, snack or staffing conflicts with site coordinator
  • Arrives on time
  • Communicates with families on a daily basis
  • Creates a fun and inviting atmosphere
  • Works with the Site Coordinator in designing clubs that reflects the interests of the students.
  • Identifies goals for the activity and a list of what the students want to learn and do while in the activity.
  • Supplies Site Coordinator order request form for all necessary supplies and equipment in a timely manner.
  • Responds to the individual needs, interests and pace of task completion of students.
  • Allows students to work out their problems with each other, assisting when needed.
  • Provides an activity that is engaging to the students.
  • Works to motivate students that are having difficulty finding a place in the program to be successful.
  • Solicits feedback from the students in order to improve the way the activity is being offered.
  • Responsible for clean-up of classroom space at end of activity/day.
  • Communicates with Site Coordinator about concerns regarding students in the program.
  • Communicates to Site Coordinator about unsafe and broken equipment.
  • Acts a positive role model at all times.
  • Arrives to program on time and prepared for daily responsibilities including snack preparation and classroom set up
  • Inspire students improve and maintain grades through a homework lab. Works with students one-on-one or in small groups as needed. Provides students with assistance as needed in completing assignments. Reviews completed assignments for accuracy.
  • Interacts with students in a warm and respectful manner, building motivation and a sense of community within activities.
  • Plans and prepares a variety of alternative educational activities during homework time.
  • Responsible for clean-up of classroom space at end of activity/day.

Qualifications:
Must be 18 years of age, have a high school diploma or general equivalency diploma and one of the following:
*Experience working with school-age children totaling 600 hours
*Documentation of at least 3 college credits in elementary education, human growth and development, behavior management or recreation or early childhood education
*Documentation that she or he is a certified coach

Also required:
*CPR and first aid certified.
*Experience working with school-aged children in center-based program.
