General Statement of Job
This employee is responsible for organizing and implementing an instructional program to meet the needs of students who are unable to attend school for medical reasons. Under occasional supervision, presents prepared lesson plans, supervised activities and assists students with assignments as scheduled in the absence of the incumbent teacher. Reports to the Coordinator of Alternative Education.

Minimum Requirements
Requires a valid South Carolina teaching certificate or eligibility for South Carolina teaching certificate in the appropriate certified area. Experience working with children in a home or hospital setting is desirable.

Specific Duties and Responsibilities
Essential Functions:
  • Provide direct instruction to a student or a group of students participating in the Medical Homebound Instruction Program.Coordinate instruction with the home school of the participating student(s).Document accurately instruction provided.Mirror as closely as possible the instruction the student would most likely receive had he/she been in class with peers.Guides the learning process toward achievement of curriculum goals; establishes clear objectives for all lessons, units, projects, etc., and communicates these objectives to students.Employs a variety of instructional techniques and media consistent with the physical limitations of the location provided and the needs and capabilities of students involved.Maintain accurate records of grades and test scores so that they are properly submit to the home school.Reports suspected learning and other disabilities to school or district contact as appropriate.Maintains accurate, complete and up-to-date records as required by law, District policy and administrative regulation.Maintains positive relationships with parents; schedules and conducts parent-teacher conferences.Attend required training for understanding of program progress and procedures.Assess the accomplishments of students on a regular basis and provides progress reports as requireMay teach multiple disciplines as assigned.
