  1. Valid Iowa Teaching Certificate with Physical Education K-6 or K-12
  2. Minimum of BA degree required with Physical Education major preferred
  3. Experience Preferred
  4. Meet NCA guidelines
  5. Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the District may find appropriate and acceptable.


REPORTS TO: Principal/Assistant Principal

SUPERVISES: Para if applicable

JOB GOALS: To provide physical education instruction and life long leisure skills that will engage all levels of students and promote physical activity in order to enhance student learning, promote the overall efficiency of the school system, and maximize the educational opportunities available to each child.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. To provide learning activities in the affective and cognitive domain.
  2. To promote a variety of instructional strategies, techniques, or activities in the classroom.
  3. To be able to use MC/NS concepts to identify examples of stereotypes, prejudices, biases, and discrimination in physical education materials.
  4. To use materials and activities that encourage the development of the following decisions, applying concepts, analyzing statistics, and solving problems.
  5. To promote life long leisure skills exploration as well as fitness awareness.
  6. Teach courses in Physical Education utilizing course of study adopted by the Board of Education and appropriate instructional objectives as guidelines in teaching individual course content.
  7. Develop lesson plans and appropriate aids utilizing effective teaching techniques to stimulate and maximize learning.
  8. Diagnosis the needs and levels of performance for each student and appraise student work and progress.
  9. Establish and maintain standards of student behavior needed to provide an orderly, productive environment.
  10. Communicate with parents and counselors regarding student progress.
  11. Supervise student in out-of-classroom activities.
  12. Identify student needs and cooperate with other staff members in helping students solve learning, attitude and health problems.
  13. Establish clear objectives for lessons and units and communicate toe objectives to the students.
  14. Attend staff meetings and in-service activities as required.
  15. Maintain professional competence through professional growth activities.
  16. Interpret grading policies and building policies in the district's instructional program to parents and the community.
  17. Maintain accurate, complete records of student attendance and progress.
  18. Provide students with immediate, specific feedback regarding their academic progress.
  19. Keeps appropriate records and follows established building grading procedures and expectations.
  20. Fulfill conditions of employment outlined in the negotiated agreement.
  21. Assume additional responsibilities and duties as assigned by the principal.
  22. Other duties as assigned


TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: 186/184 Contract Days. Salary and calendar year to be established by the Board of Education.

EVALUATION: Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the District's policy on Evaluation, State Statute, and any applicable Collective Bargaining Agreement.
