Brief Description The Executive Director Chief of Schools provides leadership and support to all school principals and leads schools in a continuous school improvement process designed to accomplish the mission and strategic goals established by the School Division. The Executive Director of Schools, in collaboration with the Assistant Superintendent for Instruction, oversees all schools, academies and programs, PK-12, the Virtual Loudoun program, and adult education in the School Division. Detailed Description The following information is intended to describe the overall nature and scope of the work being performed in relation to the position. This is not a comprehensive listing of all responsibilities or tasks; other work may be assigned when deemed appropriate:
* Works with the Assistant Superintendent and the Department of Instruction staff to coordinate the instructional program in grades PK-12 across schools; collaborates with the directors of schools and executive principals to monitor and evaluate school leadership; recommends needed changes in the instructional program; assists in the articulation of the PK-12 instructional program.
* Coordinates and supervises the work of all schools in collaboration with the Directors of Schools and Director of School Administration; recommends staffing for all schools; monitors enrollment for special permission requests; prepares and administers the budget for per pupil allotments for instructional materials.
* Creates collaborative and effective communication channels between the Department of Instruction and school administrators; keeps school-based administrators abreast of educational trends and programs; in collaboration with Directors of Schools and Director of School Administration, conducts meetings and professional learning activities for school administrators.
* Supports and coaches principals as they provide management and leadership for their schools so that each school moves closer to the accomplishment of the mission and strategic goals of the School Division; assists the principals and their leadership teams in the development of school improvement plans and meets with the principals to monitor their progress toward these objectives.
* Oversees the Office of School Administration; in coordination with the Director of School Administration, coordinates and supports principals in responding to stakeholder concerns, supervising discipline program for the division and coordinating communication, comments and complaints from constituents.
* Oversees the Virtual Loudoun program and supports the Virtual Loudoun team in all distance learning programs in LCPS; oversees the Adult Education program
* Evaluates principals and provides direction regarding assessment of their performance and accomplishments; provides supervision of and collaborates with Directors of Schools and Director of School Administration to ensure alignment across the School Division.
* Plans and implements the Summer School Program.
* Attends School Board meetings and prepares such reports for the Board and committees as the Assistant Superintendent for Instruction may request.
Job Requirements * Master's Degree and a Postgraduate Professional License with endorsement in K-12 administration
* Seven years of progressive overall education experience in teaching, supervision, administration, with a minimum of five years focused on school administration
* Demonstrated experience in developing and tracking budgets
* Knowledge of state and federal statutes, regulations, and rules relating to instruction, curriculum, student learning and ability to advise interested parties of the provisions of the laws
* Ability to keep and maintain accurate records and to meet deadlines
* Possesses strong organizational skills and interpersonal skills
* Ability to communicate with individuals of varied cultural and educational backgrounds
* Demonstrate the leadership qualities and personal characteristics necessary for working effectively with administrators and teachers
