Reporting to the Deputy Chief of Elementary Schools, the Senior Manager of Professional Learning is responsible for the professional learning of Network Chiefs and Deputy Chiefs for elementary and high school networks. This includes facilitating the planning, implementation and monitoring of professional learning opportunities for network leadership, network teams, and principals. In addition to understanding effective research-based professional learning standards and delivery models, the Senior Manager of Professional Learning will apply best practices aligned with the district's vision and mission. The goal is to significantly contribute to continuous improvement by designing, delivering and promoting high quality learning that builds professional capacity to improve the instructional core.

Successful execution of professional learning in the Office of Network Support will depend on collaboration within ONS, across central office teams, and with external partners.

The Senior Manager of Professional Learning will be responsible for the following:

  • Leads the design of a comprehensive professional learning plan that builds the capacity of network leaders and network teams

  • Develops and oversees the delivery of professional learning plan in collaboration with internal and external partners

  • Analyzes data to identify professional development needs and to evaluate, improve and report on effectiveness of professional learning

  • Keeps abreast of research-based, innovative professional development techniques to provide the district with the highest quality of professional development

  • Engage network chiefs in real-time coaching conversations centered on professional learning for principals

  • Creates a system that maintains and monitors the recording and reporting of Professional Learning hours and participation

  • Develop and implement the necessary administrative processes, supports, and accountability protocols to ensure the seamless delivery of flexible support services from academic and operational departments to networks and schools

  • Serve as subject matter expert in relevant work groups



Type of Education Required:

Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor's degree in Education, Organizational Leadership or a related field. Master's degree prefered.

Type of Experience and Number of Years:

  • Minimum of 3 years experience developing and facilitating training; preferably experience in pedagogy training

  • Minimum of additional 5 years of management experience with oversight of instructional design at school and Network levels



Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Experience in professional learning development

  • Strong leadership and team building skills, (e.g. ability to develop high performing teams united around a clear vision for serving schools and achieving student success)

  • Advanced knowledge of instructional practices, program administration, data analysis, and school improvement

  • Project management and strategic planning capabilities, including the ability to establish long-term vision, goals, and the ability to align/manage activities toward goal fulfillment

  • Possess the ability to assist the Chief Schools Officer in articulating a vision, set high standards, and effectively guide leaders to commit to high expectations by setting actionable, measurable goals and see them through to completion

  • Expertise in leadership development and instructional leadership

  • Ability to define problems, analyze data, and outline valid conclusions and action steps

  • Builds collaborative relationships with a wide variety of constituent groups, including external partnerships, to ensure the entire system operates in the most effective manner possible to support school and principal needs.



Residency Requirement:

As a condition of employment with the Chicago Public Schools (CPS), employees are required to live within the geographic boundaries of the City of Chicago within six months of their CPS hire date and must maintain residency throughout their employment with the district.
