The Role:
We are looking for dynamic, committed educators with strong content and pedagogical knowledge, solid classroom management skills, a deep commitment to educational and racial equity, and experience working in an urban school setting. The math interventionist will work in a JK - 5 school to support educators' ongoing professional growth, build capacity and support students recover and thrive after the COVID 19 emergency school closure period. The math interventionist will work in a collaborative manner with teachers, draw on a depth of knowledge about mathematics development and problem solving as well as significant mathematics teaching strategies. The math interventionist will also work directly with the Instructional Coach and principal to support data monitoring and analysis, school improvement, and intervention work. The math interventionist will support implementation of the Math curriculum. This is a one year position, pending ESSER Funding.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Skillfully facilitate student learning of math content and practice standards.
  • Empower a diverse group of learners via compassionate math instruction.
  • Identify unique student needs and collaborate with educator team members to effectively address those needs and improve instructional practice.
  • Leverage and support students in using technology.
  • Incorporate a variety of teaching and assessment strategies in order to inform and modify instruction, as well as target intervention and enrichment needs.
  • Attend grade level team meetings with grade level colleagues as assigned.
  • Partner with families to include them in each student's learning and development, guided by a profound understanding of the importance of this connection.
  • Attend regular school and department meetings.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Your Skill Set:
As the incoming Math Interventionist you will possess many, though perhaps not all, of the following characteristics and qualifications:
  • Mathematics teaching experience in the elementary or middle grades with a proven track record of promoting high achievement in the classroom.
  • Experience writing lesson plans with clear, attainable learning goals and aligned activities.
  • Experience using a range of assessments to analyze student learning to inform instruction.
  • Understanding of the developmental needs of learners and the strategies to meet those needs through the curriculum.
  • Understanding of the difference between a growth and a fixed mindset, and how to support the development of a growth mindset in math learners.
  • Cultural Proficiency and culturally responsive teaching skills
  • Strong classroom management skills.
  • Experience leading instruction in urban school settings.
  • Strong knowledge of Common Core/ MA Curriculum Framework for Mathematics.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, alongside the ability to establish and maintain effective and collaborative working relationships with a diverse staff and student body.
  • Bachelor's degree required; Master's in Education strongly preferred.
  • Massachusetts Teacher Certification/Licensure in Mathematics required.
  • A strong work ethic, alongside a commitment to doing whatever it takes for students to excel.
