JOB TITLE : Jr. Business Systems Software Engineer

REPORTS TO : Manager ERP System Development and Administration

DEFINITION : Under general supervision designs, develops and maintains business systems software solutions that are intended to increase the efficiency and productivity of supported staff. Performs other related duties as assigned.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES :
  • Defines and documents requirements in close collaboration with Business Clients, Software Engineers and Technical Support team(s).
  • Writes and documents process and program specifications. Ensures proper documentation standards and procedures are maintained.
  • Designs, develops, and maintains data integration applications and solutions using established processes and standard operating procedures. Works with Technical Support team to minimize performance issues.
  • Coordinates system testing and assists users with acceptance testing to ensure delivered product meets project requirements and system policies.
  • Facilitates the design, development and maintenance of data and process models.
  • Works on multiple project requests. With collaboration of manager engages vendors of applications and systems to assist with best practice implementations, scheduling of routine operations, and troubleshooting.
  • Performs comprehensive analysis, design, development, testing (unit, system, and integration), documentation and debugging of computer software in support of web based and client server applications - Online & Batch.
  • Performs modifications to and maintenance of existing operational programs and procedures by adhering to established SDLC and systems validation policy and standard operating procedures.
  • Serves as point of contact for resolution of routine software problems.
  • Designs and documents workflow and makes appropriate recommendations to improve the office's operational effectiveness, including steps required to develop and/or modify automated systems.

    Assists in the development of work plans and project organization/documentation.

    Performs additional duties as assigned.


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS :

Experience, Education and Training:
  • Bachelor's degree in job related area.
  • One year experience in developing information systems solutions using Microsoft SQL Management Studio, SAP Crystal Reports, or similar reporting tool.
  • CGI Advantage or other enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems support experience is preferred.
  • Any experience with PowerShell, SSIS, .Net, HTML, VB, or XML considered a plus.

  • Knowledge of current and emerging technology and Systems Development Methodology.
  • Thorough knowledge of automated business systems and advanced reporting tools.
  • Skill in requirements gathering, problem solving, managing projects/programs, effective listening, and the use of technology tools including Microsoft SQL Management Studio and SAP Crystal Reports.
  • Skill in reviewing and interpreting highly technical information and writing technical materials, documentation.
  • Skill in speaking persuasively.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Ability to schedule activities, meetings, and/or events; often gather, collate, and/or classify data; and use basic, job-related equipment.
  • Ability to meet schedules and deadlines.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
  • Ability to implement information technology solutions, manage diverse teams, multi-task and prioritize.
  • Ability to complete complex project tasks applied to specialized technology to resolve total system problems or applications.


PHYSICAL AND ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS:
The work of this class is generally sedentary and performed in an office environment. Work includes the operation of office equipment, including personal computers and other office machinery, and physical activities, including walking, lifting, typing, sitting.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:
Persons appointed to this classification are designated as Essential-As-Needed Personnel and are required to work when schools and/or offices are closed during adverse weather conditions or any other emergency when contacted and directed to do so.

FLSA : Exempt

SALARY: Grade 05 on the BCPS OPE 12 Month payscale $68,316-$105,618.

Eligible for the Baltimore County Employees' Retirement System.

Pre-Employment Requirements:
  • All persons employed by the Baltimore County Public Schools, regular and temporary, are required to be fingerprinted and have a criminal background investigation (State of Maryland, Senate Bill 315, effective October 1, 1986) completed. The fee charged for fingerprinting is $81.00. An identification card will be issued which must be shown prior to employment.
  • Anyone offered employment is required to provide proper identification and documentation of eligibility for employment in the US.
  • If you have military experience you will be asked to provide a copy of DD214.
  • Official transcripts for all higher education must be received prior to contract signing.
  • Some positions will require employees to undergo a physical examination and/or drug testing.
  • All newly hired personnel must attend a Badges and Benefits session.
  • Additional job verification will be required for salary credit.
