REPORTS TO:Special Education Supervisor; Special Education and Classroom Teachers

JOB MISSION: To facilitate the students' progress toward the goals stated in the individual educational plans under the direction of the Special Education and Classroom Teachers. To provide other instructional and clerical assistance as required by the Special Education and Classroom Teachers.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
•assistance with toileting, feeding and/or lifting and transferring
•providing physical restraint; formal de-escalation and restraint training required
•Assisting a student whose behavior is consistently disruptive to the classroom and requires frequent removal and /or physical restraint
•Assisting a student who has significant developmental delays and requires constant supervision for reasons of safety
•provide academic support and reteaching in or out of the classroom
•support teacher with instruction and progress monitoring
•support the teacher with general classroom duties
•student support for executive functioning and organization
•behavioral support for students needing redirection including removal from classroom
•student is hearing-impaired but does not require sign language
•student has physical or neurological impairment
•Supervision of students for safety on playground, in cafeteria at arrival and dismissal as assigned
•Assist with data collection, academic and behavioral
•Assist students with toileting in Pre-K and K levels

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:NONE

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:Salary and work year in accordance with current Longmeadow Educators Association (Unit F) and Longmeadow School Committee Agreement.

Welcome to the Williams Middle School web site. Williams is a grade 6 through 8 public middle school in Longmeadow Massachusetts, a suburb of Springfield. We are committed to building relationships with our students to help foster a successful transition from childhood to early adolescence. All classes are heterogeneously grouped with the exception of grade 7 and 8 mathematics. A full year of high school french or spanish is taught in grades 7 and 8. Our outstanding performing arts program includes men's and women's chorus, mixed choruses for grade 6, orchestra, band, and jazz band. Academic, exploratory and performing arts classes take place during a seven-block school day. While we currently offer an exceptional variety of engaging curriculum and a top notch exploratory and arts programs, we continue to look for areas in which to grow. We will continue to grow professionally in the area of differentiating instruction and hope to continue to gather and use data to better inform what we do and how we do it. We are extremely fortunate to have students, families and a community who deeply value education. Job Requirements
QUALIFICATIONS: 1.College course work, preferred. 2.Demonstrated ability and interest in children and education. 3.Clerical skills desirable. 4.Some psychology background desirable. 5.Physical ability to handle the responsibilities associated with these positions. Lifting and/or toileting may be required. 6.Such alternative to the above qualifications as the School Committee or its designee find appropriate and acceptable.
