QUALIFICATIONS
The ideal candidate will:
  • Successful completion and graduation from an accredited Occupational Therapy program recognized by NBCOT and completion of all fieldwork requirements
  • 1-3 years of experience as an occupational therapist in a school setting with elementary and middle school-aged children.
  • Certification as an occupational therapist by the National Board for Certification of Occupational Therapy (NBCOT)
  • Current California license as a certified occupational therapist.
  • Demonstrate an advanced understanding of strategies for students with autism, sensory processing disorder, specific learning disabilities, executive function, and self-regulation challenges.
  • Have excellent time-management skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work independently.

KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES:
  • Knowledge of occupational therapy theories, models of practice, principles, and evidence-based practice
  • Preferred knowledge in Sensory Integration theory and practices
  • Knowledge of human development throughout the life span
  • Ability to analyze tasks relative to areas of occupation, performance skills, activity demands, contexts, and student factors to implement the intervention plan
  • Ability to recognize occupational performance deficits in the areas of personal care, student role/interactive skills, processing skills, play, community integration, and written communication
  • Skill in gathering screening and evaluation data, completing checklists, histories, and parent interviews
  • Ability to select, adapt, and sequence relevant occupations and purposeful activities that support intervention goals
  • Ability to maintain safe environments, equipment, and materials
  • Ability to prepare and maintain accurate records and progress notes
  • Willingness to be educated and trained for specific program implementation
  • Ability to positively interact and collaborate in a team environment
  • Complete thorough evaluation, including muscle tone, range of motion/mobility,, movement analysis, perceptive/fine motor skills, sensory-motor processing, attention, self-regulation, and functional activities of daily living.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Assess each new student and evaluate OT needs
  • Monitor therapy programs and consult with educational staff regarding the inclusion of appropriate occupational therapy treatment strategies into the educational program.
  • Educate and demonstrate (verbally or written) therapy techniques to teachers and parents that can be incorporated into the classroom/home.
  • Consult on IEPs and provided required documentation of students' needs and supports.
  • Attend staff meetings, in-service training, and continuing education courses as appropriate or required.
  • Responsible for timely documentation of evaluation results, progress reports, discharge reports, daily notes, service tracker notes.
  • Monitor and manage the handwriting and keyboarding curriculum and train staff/parents in any applicable techniques.
  • Work together with behavioral support staff to assist students' in crisis.
  • Assist with admission interviews as needed
  • Provide group therapy interventions for K-12th grade classes.
  • Assess and evaluate all students' needs for individual or small group OT sessions.
  • Attend parent/teacher meetings for students' receiving OT as needed.
  • Monitor recess and lunch activities to address concerns such as feeding, social skills, play, fine and gross motor skills.
  • Assist with arrival, dismissal, and subbing coverage as needed.
