TOSA, Teacher Development, Professional Development Processand Achievement of TenureLead

Position Description and Function
The Teacher Development Team (under the umbrella of the Talent Management group within Human Resources) provides aligned and comprehensive professional development to all licensed staff (probationary and tenured) so that licensed staff continuously grow as effective, equitable educators who successfully serve all students. To this end, the Teacher Development TOSA, PDP and AofT Lead, will support the work of teacher development and Q Comp, including:
  1. Support teacher recruitment, hiring, and onboarding
  2. Lead New Teacher Orientation (NTO) and Achievement of Tenure (AofT)
  3. Lead the Professional Development Process (PDP)
  4. Support observations, coaching, and the Standards of Effective Instruction (SOEI)
  5. Support teacher leadership
The Teacher Development TOSA, PDP and AofT Lead, will collaborate with the other Teacher Development TOSAs as well as with the DPF of Teacher Development & Retention, the Lead PAR Mentors, Lead Instructional Specialist (IS), the Manager of Teacher Development & Q Comp, and the Director of Talent Management.

Reports To: The Manager of Teacher Development & Q Comp

Responsibilities
Collaborate with the other 2 Teacher Development TOSAs to oversee the implementation of Teacher Development and Q Comp, which may include:
  • Provide training to PDP Coordinators in order to support all licensed staff members across the district (including classroom teachers, related services, TOSAs, and DPFs) in the implementation and completion of Professional Development Plans (PDPs) and the MPS Achievement of Tenure (AofT) process.
  • Become an expert with SuccessFactors to support the implementation of Performance and Learning within SuccessFactors
  • Support the implementation of job-embedded professional development for teachers and related services at sites in collaboration with the Academic PD Team, including training for PD Chairs and other teacher leaders who support job-embedded professional development at sites
  • Remain current on MN State Statutes related to Achievement of Tenure and Tiered Licensure
  • Collaboratively develop professional development training opportunities that support New Teacher Orientation (NTO) and the MPS Achievement of Tenure (AofT) requirements and district priorities
    • Opportunities will be developed in collaboration with the Manager of Teacher Development & Q Comp, the Lead PAR Mentors, the Lead IS, and other district teams as needed
  • As needed, collaborate with other teams across the district to support, develop and facilitate professional development for teachers and related service professionals related to district priorities
  • Along with other members of the Teacher Development Team, co-facilitate professional development of new primary observers (principals) and secondary observers (teachers) by planning and facilitating Standards of Effective Instruction certification training sessions
  • Along with other members of the Teacher Development Team, collaboratively develop professional development for all primary and secondary observers across the district
  • Collaborate with the DPF of Teacher Development & Retention on projects and initiatives aimed to increase teacher retention
  • Participate in true-scoring Standards of Effective Instruction cadre once a month
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications
  • Valid Minnesota teaching license
  • Tenured at MPS
  • Minimum of 5 years of successful teaching experience
  • Extensive knowledge in the Professional Development Process (PDP)
  • Experience participating in or extensive knowledge of the MPS Achievement of Tenure (AofT) professional development activities and process
  • Extensive knowledge in Standards of Effective Instruction (SOEI) and demonstrated quality in conducting observations and providing feedback
  • Certified in the Standards of Effective Instruction within 30 days after first duty day
  • Demonstrated success in developing and leading/facilitating professional development for adults
  • Experience in teacher leader position preferred, such as master teacher, pre-service supervisor, mentor teacher or other professional development positions
  • Demonstrated success in working with students and staff of racially diverse backgrounds, applying differentiated learning strategies, and improving student achievement in the classroom preferred
  • Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Google Suite (including but not limited to Google Forms, Google Slides, Google Sheets, Google Classroom)
  • Demonstrated attention to detail and maintenance of records
  • Extensive experience in customer service and communications
