VIRTUAL LEARNING AT KIPP DC:

The goal of the virtual learning program at KIPP DC is to develop a desire and love for learning in students in our virtual program. Staff members give students in our program personalized experience, seeking to know a child, their family, their strengths, and their areas for growth, in a fully virtual space. The virtual program strives to provide students with an intensive foundation in the core academic subjects through a blend of asynchronous and synchronous instruction. Learning coordinators in virtual classrooms use KIPP DC curriculum, created by Digital Learning Creators, to support students in their learning. Virtual staff cultivate a strong sense of belonging and a strong relationship with their caseload of students and families.

Through powerful lessons and relationships, our virtual learning program will drive student learning in English Language Arts, math, science, social studies, and special education. In core subjects, 1st-8th grade learning coordinators implement research-based curricula, brought to life digitally by our Digital Learning Creators, that are Common Core aligned and student centered. KIPP DC curricula is added to and revised by a committee of teachers and leaders focusing on culturally relevant and responsive pedagogy. Our Digital Learning Creators bring this curriculum to our students' screens at home.

With ample planning time, content meetings, and daily student work/data analysis, virtual staff work collaboratively with peers in the virtual school program and across our network. Staff receive feedback and support from school leaders, network content coaches, and other teammates. School culture at the virtual program is grounded in Positive Behavior Incentives Systems (PBIS) led by an attendance and family success manager at the school. Student identity and creativity is recognized through weekly celebrations and a myriad of clubs ranging from Project Lit to martial arts.
