Position Description:

An Assistant Dean of Students will work closely with the Dean of Students and Director to ensure that the school campus is a safe, comfortable and a positive learning environment for all students to be able to reach their goals. An Assistant Dean of Students will act as part of the leadership team to provide operational support and to handle all discipline related incidents as well as provide support and direction to teachers for classroom management interventions and strategies. An Assistant Dean of Students will also take on multiple tasks and responsibilities as assigned by the Dean of Students and the school Director to support school wide operations. This person will:
  • Assist with leadership to engage all stakeholders in the delivery of programs and services to support the students' academic achievement and social and emotional development
  • Work cooperatively with the students, staff and parents towards a positive school climate
  • Maintain a positive learning atmosphere for all students so that they can achieve their academic and personal goals
  • Monitor and track student attendance by following mandates and demands for notifying parents and families about absences
  • Assist teachers with absence tracking and parent conferences as needed to discuss attendance and tardiness concerns
  • Enforce the school handbook procedures and policies
  • Has a mindset of using restorative justice approach with discipline
  • Work with students and parents to create action and behavior plans to correct behaviors that distract the learning environment
  • Follow all safety procedures and track/file all documents required
  • Assist in planning bus evacuations, fire, tornado and lockdown drills and tests; submit yearly documentation
  • Informally observe teachers on a regular basis and provide feedback on classroom management and interventions that may be needed for specific students or whole classes
  • Problem solve and model best practices for classroom management strategies and tools to ensure student success and positive student teacher relationships
  • Support the Dean of Students and Director with operational management and procedures for the school building and facilities
  • Issue referrals and communicate with families
  • Document all incident referrals
  • Attend MTSS/RTI meetings
  • Communicate with parents about weekly behavior
  • Frequently check demerit/strike docs

Security
  • Ensure school grounds are safe and security system is kept up to date
  • Support office staff by answering phones, assisting parents, translations
  • Traffic duties in the mornings and afternoons ensuring safe passage for all students
  • Issuing tardies and communicating with parents/students once tardies become excessive
  • Manage and observe lunch and recess
  • Check-In visitors and assist with sign-in log
  • Attend local police meetings and school safety meetings
  • Ensure all walkie-talkies are working properly
  • Provide keys and building access for all staff members


Requirements:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Human Service (Mental Health, School Counseling, Social Work)
  • K-8th Grade education experience
