Job Details

Chicago Public Schools (CPS) is the third-largest school district in the United States, serving over 340,000 students in 600+ schools and employing nearly 36,000 people, most of them teachers. CPS has set ambitious goals to ensure that every student, in every school and every neighborhood, has access to a world-class learning experience that prepares each for success in college, career, and civic life. In order to fulfill this mission, we make three commitments to our students, their families, and all Chicagoans: academic progress, financial stability, and integrity. Six core values are embedded within these commitments - student-centered, whole child, equity, academic excellence, community partnership, and continuous learning.

The CPS Department of Arts Education (DAE) works to ensure that every Chicago Public Schools student receives a high-quality arts education by creating conditions at the classroom, school, district, and state level that allow the arts to grow and flourish. The DAE seeks an Arts Communications Coordinator to join our team.

The Communications Coordinator is responsible for planning, creating, executing, and evaluating all departmental communications, especially those related to Project Cultivate, a four-year U.S. Department of Education AAEDD grant designed to expand and improve DAE arts professional learning and associated instructional resources. This role will also maintain and contribute to the expansion of artlook® Educator, an online networking platform and database for CPS arts teachers developed as part of the Project Cultivate grant.

This position is fully funded through Project Cultivate. Funding through the grant is anticipated to conclude in September 2023, after which there may be an opportunity to extend the position.

The Communications Coordinator will be held accountable for the following responsibilities:

1) artlook® Educator maintenance, development, and evaluation

  • Regular maintenance of artlook® Educator, an online networking platform and database for CPS arts teachers. Includes moderation of forums, oversight and maintenance of user accounts, and communicating with users about platform updates, fixes, and individual issues and questions.
  • In collaboration with the artlook® Educator development team, conduct regular user evaluation via surveys, focus groups, and other methods, and engage in subsequent data analysis to inform updates and changes to the platform.

2) Development and execution of departmental communications strategy and content

  • Collaborate with DAE staff members to develop efficient, engaging communications strategies and yearly calendars across all platforms and channels (including artlook® Educator, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and the DAE public-facing website); ensure alignment of these efforts with larger DAE and Ingenuity communications strategies and calendars
  • Collaborate with DAE staff members to create and/or edit all Project Cultivate-related communications (print and digital), including e-blasts, social media posts, website content, artlook® Educator content, flyers, research reports, surveys, etc.
  • Collaborate with DAE staff members, CPS marketing team members, and/or external designers to develop templates for e-blasts, social media posts, flyers, research reports, and other Cultivate-related communications
  • Work with other DAE team members to maintain an updated mailing list of all CPS arts teachers for communications purposes; help to develop efficient, timely list update processes

3) Departmental strategic planning and cross-team and/or cross-departmental initiatives

  • With DAE team members, engage in collaborative strategic planning of long- and short-term departmental goals
  • With DAE team members, engage in collaborative planning, execution, evaluation, and continual improvement of departmental systems, processes, protocols, and norms
  • Where appropriate, assist with departmental daily operations as well as special events and initiatives (hosted by the DAE and/or the Office of Teaching & Learning)
  • Other duties as assigned
