POSITION SUMMARY:

The Classroom Teacher - Talent Ready instructs students in the technical and occupational skills of the professional trade. The teacher will develop, select and modify instructional plans and materials and present them using instructional techniques that meet the needs of all students. The teacher will provide an atmosphere and environment conducive to the intellectual, physical, social and emotional development of students. This position monitors and evaluates student performance, develops and implements plans to improve student performance, maintains required records, and follows PGCPS required procedures and practices. The incumbent of this position will be responsible for preparing students to successfully take and pass industry certification exams.

Detailed Description

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.
  • Establishes clear goals and objectives related to the School Improvement Plan;
  • Plans and prepares lessons, assignments and instructional materials; establishes learning objectives consistent with appraisal of student needs, curriculum framework, and knowledge of human growth and development;
  • Evaluates student progress using appropriate assessment techniques; prepares, administers and corrects evaluations and assessments, and records results;
  • Selects and uses appropriate instructional strategies including, but not limited to, lectures, group discussions, demonstrations, modeling and multimedia teaching aids to present subject matter to students;
  • Maintains order and discipline in the classroom conducive to effective learning and takes all necessary safety precautions to protect students, equipment, materials and facilities;
  • Creates a classroom environment that provides for student involvement in the learning process and enables each student to achieve learning objectives;
  • Counsels students when academic and adjustment problems arise;
  • Confers with parents and students regarding progress/problems of assigned students; arranges and participates in teacher-parent or teacher-student conferences as necessary;
  • Maintains accurate and complete records as required by law, Board Policy and Administrative Procedures;
  • Monitors appropriate use and care of equipment, textbooks, materials and facilities;
  • Attends and actively participates in staff/faculty meetings and provides input regarding the planning of instruction goals, objectives and methods;
  • Improves skill and knowledge base in current trends, research and methodology in instructional techniques, technology, multi-cultural content, problem solving and interdisciplinary connections;
  • Plans and supervises purposeful assignments for paraprofessional educators, student teachers, and volunteers;
  • Participates in career & technical student organization, fundraising, continuous school improvement activities, advisory committee meetings, and pro-active professional development workshops and seminars;
  • Assists in creating practicum and job shadowing experiences for seniors;
  • Provides students with broad, transferable concepts and job skills, such as job search, interviewing and resume writing skills;
  • Collaborates with the school and Talent Ready Program team members to implement the program with fidelity, implement content literacy standards uniformly across the curricular areas, and produce and implement multi-disciplinary, project-based learning experiences for students;
  • Participates with Talent Ready Program team members to develop appropriate intervention and enrichment strategies for identified students for use in the classroom and through other delivery methods (e.g., after-school); and
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

    QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Ability to work collaboratively across school lines to develop and implement high-quality programs that reflect real-world occupational and professional needs that comprise the expansive enterprise of information technology;
  • Familiarity with or willingness to learn the Microsoft Technology Associate certification requirements, CISCO certification requirements, and the CompTIA certification requirements;
  • Familiarity with or willingness to learn programming languages, such as HTML5, CSS, Python, Java, and/or Swift;
  • Familiarity with or willingness to learn complex technical concepts related to computer hardware, software, and network engineering;
  • Knowledge of school organization, goals and objectives, curriculum, teaching techniques, current trends, research, and materials of instruction in the field of specialization;
  • Excellent knowledge and understanding of the teaching and learning process;
  • Ability to provide instruction that reflects multiple perspectives and multicultural education;
  • Ability to work with diverse populations;
  • Ability to infuse technology into the curriculum;
  • Ability to work effectively with students, parents, administrators, colleagues, community, and other school system staff; and
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.

  • EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

    Bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited college or university in information technology, computer science or a related field required; Master's degree preferred. Two (2) years of previous occupational experience preferred.

    CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

    Holds or is eligible for a Professional Certificate appropriate to area of assignment issued by the Maryland State Department of Education. Certification in one of the following required: Microsoft Technology Associate, CompTIA A+, CompTIA Network +, CompTIA Security+, CCENT, CCNA, or CCNA Security.

    SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

    No direct supervisory responsibilities.
