Associate Director, Product Management, Tutoring

Amplify Tutoring launched in response to heightened student needs driven by disruptions in schooling and unfinished learning as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. High-dosage tutoring has gained national momentum as a proven research-based support to close achievement gaps for students. This is an opportunity to join an innovative team helping schools, districts, and states to scale high-impact tutoring programs and meet student needs. Amplify works in close partnership with districts and states on an array of tutoring initiatives, including providing small group reading tutoring directly to district students through Amplify Tutors and providing tutoring materials and professional development for district-managed tutors. Tutoring may occur in both in-person and virtual settings. Amplify is looking for an experienced product management leader to drive the product roadmap and steer the development of a tutoring platform to support and scale our tutoring services.

Position Summary

The Associate Director, Tutoring Product Management, will partner with Tutoring Program, Product, Engineering, and Design teams to set product strategy and roadmaps, define product vision, and prioritize requirements. Ultimately, this product leader will ensure delivery of a scalable tutoring platform that provides virtual video capabilities, captures attendance, and supports management of schedules as well as valuable insights into tutor impact, student attendance and growth, and visibility for school leaders and teachers.

Responsibilities of the Associate Director, Tutoring Product Management:
  • Lead the platform development process across teams, from ideation and research, to planning and implementation, to release and iteration to ensure the best experiences for tutors, students, classroom teachers, and school/district leaders
  • Communicate product goals and objectives regularly to your team to motivate them, and empower them take on work they think is best based on the prioritized backlog. Be responsible for your roadmap and backlog. Prioritize and manage your backlog, breakdown features into user stories / deliverables, and elaborate on them with your team.
  • Serve as the product leader across Amplify Tutoring platform, program, and customer-facing teams to ensure timely and smooth releases and services to users, including managing service readiness scope and deliverables. Define roadmap and manage and drive priorities for Amplify Tutoring.
  • Draft internal communications, release notes and training materials for the launch of new features. Review customer-facing information before it is released. Support troubleshooting.
  • Champion your vision and products within the company. Participate in product strategy setting, drawing on product expertise, customer research, competitive landscape, and intimate knowledge of the product development process.
  • Work with Amplify leadership teams to build both short-term and long-term strategic product plans that consider user needs, business needs and the broader competitive landscape.
  • Mitigate risks with product managers by calling out critical risks and issues to leadership and presenting ideas and options to resolve.
  • Define the roadmap and manage priorities for Amplify Tutoring platform development, including handling cross-team dependencies, collaborating with other product teams to reach consensus, identifying risks, and proposing solutions to mitigate risks.
  • Work closely with Amplify Leadership teams to track progress and clearly communicate updates on a regular basis.
  • Work with product managers and use data to measure whether product initiatives reach desired objectives.
  • Serve as a specialist in product management and agile product development. Utilize standard methodologies in: market and product research, OKRs, new product development, agile practices, customer research / feedback, etc.
  • Create better processes where you see opportunities. Play an active role in shaping Amplify's Tutoring team culture.
  • Working with Tutoring Program team, the market, customers, and internal partners to ensure product market fit
  • Collaborate with Tutoring Program team colleagues to continuously evaluate and stay attuned to the competitive and partner landscape and products for new trends, competitive threats, and growth opportunities
  • Become familiar with product users and act as the voice of the customer (internal and external) in the product development process - know what makes them happy and what data allows them to support and drive outcomes.
  • Meet with internal users to understand their needs, processes, and challenges - sales and marketing teams, spend time with tutors, teachers, students and administrators. Conduct market research and use that information to evolve the products to best meet the needs of our users, arrive at product market fit, and reach our ambitious reach, revenue, and impact goals.
  • Identify and prioritize questions to answer with data, setting up the appropriate practices to support it. Work with product managers on your team to do the same.
Basic Qualifications of the Associate Director, Tutoring Product Management:
  • Bachelor's degree
  • 5+ years of operational product management and cross functional experience
  • Experience building consumer-facing technology products
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills to create and maintain focus on key outcomes
Preferred Qualifications of the Associate Director, Tutoring Product Management:
  • Experience managing teams
  • Experience successfully collaborating with a diverse range of partners to create focus and deliver complex systems and products in an ever-evolving environment
  • Strong quantitative and analytical abilities with an interest in using data to drive decision-making
