General Statement of Duties:
The vacancy is open until filled. This position is a 239-day contract. Collaborative position requiring knowledge and skills in coaching, planning, modeling, and delivering research-based instructional strategies and interventions in the area of reading. Ability to plan, organize and coach instruction to meet individual and group needs utilizing state guidelines and division curriculum. Exhibits considerable knowledge of learning theory and best practices. Acts in the best interests of students and models appropriate behaviors in all professional interactions.

Essential Duties:
  • Serves as a district literacy coach, supporting teachers and administrators in multiple schools across the district
  • Provide professional development related to literacy for the district as well as schools
  • Provide data analysis to schools for district assessments
  • Collaborate with Title I school-based coaches to support school-wide reading programs
  • Support district curriculum and resource development
  • Supports teachers in planning instruction for all students, demonstrating knowledge of subject matter and using state Standards of Learning and the curriculum of the district
  • Uses current school and division data to plan instruction
  • Develops formative and summative assessments, using multiple tools to assess student learning on an ongoing basis, and supports teachers in altering instruction to meet group and individual needs
  • Communicates and coordinates instruction with other staff (special ed, gifted, remediation staff, etc.) relative to student learning
  • Stays abreast of current educational trends and best practices as these relate to classroom instruction and effective schools
  • Maintains professional manner when interacting with teachers, students, parents, patrons, community agencies and colleagues
  • Incorporates and models appropriate use of Technology to support instruction and student learning
  • Performs other duties as assigned


Minimum Qualifications:

  • Must possess a comprehensive understanding of intervention programs and strategies to support students and teachers in reading instruction to meet individualized goals in support of achieving grade level state standards of learning
  • Must demonstrate the ability to plan, model, and deliver current research-based best practices and interventions in reading instruction and be able to assess student responsiveness to those interventions through analysis of observation and assessment data
  • Must be able to work collaboratively with team members and serve as a liaison between teachers, school based administration, and elementary education staff
  • Endorsement in general education and reading specialist required
  • Master's degree in Reading is required
  • Minimum of five years teaching experience in grades K through 5 is required
  • Three years of experience as a reading specialist is required


Additional Information:

Minimum annual starting salary: $57,564.11. Salary will be prorated based on actual start date, if start date is beyond August 2, 2021
This is a full-time position, 239-day contract.
