Job Summary
The Supervisor, Training and Safety Specialist implements and oversees the Operations Department's training program for the Anchorage School District. This position also oversees the districtwide Operations-based safety protocols. The position has a retirement association with the Public Employees' Retirement System (PERS).

Job Requirements
The following are required:
  1. A high school diploma or equivalent education.Five years of custodial experience in a large institutional setting. Five years of hands-on experience with automated cleaning equipment such as automatic floor scrubbers, self-contained carpet extractors, and related custodial power equipment. Working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.A valid Alaska driver's license.

The following are preferred:
  1. Bilingual in English and Tagalog, Spanish, or Hmong. Thorough knowledge of ASD building locations, interior layouts, and perimeter access points. Working knowledge of building mechanical systems to include water, gas, and electrical shut-off devices. Working knowledge of basic preventative maintenance of auto-scrubbers and related custodial power equipment.Working knowledge of ASD's computerized maintenance management system.

Essential Job Functions
  1. Continually assures that ASD schools meet the cleanliness standards required by the Anchorage School District and its Operations Department.Conducts regular, programmatic training events for groups of custodians at multiple sites throughout the district. Assigns employee workload in area schools and frequently inspects the work being performed.Interprets written instructions and reports. Performs special assignments efficiently without direct supervision.Develops, schedules, and implements the training of new employees and demonstrates procedures and methods.Maintains work procedures to conform to Anchorage School District policies and union contracts.Assists with requisitions supplies and equipment for area schools.Trains and assists crew chiefs and lead custodians with minor mechanical troubleshooting of the security equipment and systems within school facilities.Works with the director of Maintenance and Operations to assist in the development and implementation of training programs.Provides regular feedback to the director of Maintenance and other Operations supervisors. Writes clear and concise reports.Develops and maintains outstanding customer service processes. Works cooperatively and maintains effective relationships with students, faculty, administrators, and the public.

Physical /Mental Demands
The physical demands of this job require frequent standing, walking, sitting, speaking and hearing. Specific visual abilities are also required. The employee is regularly required to reach with his/her hands and arms and occasionally lift items weighing less than 40 lbs. Additionally, the employee must be able to understand vague and implicit instructions, be able to readily recall facts and details, handle conflict and make effective decisions under pressure. The employee must have the ability to effectively manage the stress of working with students, parents, and other employees representing diverse cultures, personalities, and work styles in a dynamic work environment.

Work is performed in a professional environment with a wide variety of individuals having differing functions, personalities and abilities, including working with diverse groups of people in a variety of different settings.

While performing the duties of this job the employee may be regularly exposed to a video display. The employee may be exposed to outdoor weather conditions. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
