Job Shift: Day

Summary: Responsible for the oversight and support of the reading program, including testing and evaluation of students; staff training and on-going support; and maintenance of reading materials for the school.

Responsibilities
  • Train new and current staff in various reading programs and methodologies
  • Provide guidance and on-going support in implementing classroom reading programs
  • Supervision and oversight of reading intervention services; including progress monitoring
  • Serve as a resource for classroom teachers in determining appropriate instructional programs, materials and student groupings
  • Locate, provide and maintain instructional reading materials with classroom teachers
  • Serve as a resource for assessment consultation to classroom teachers
  • Provide diagnostic assessments for new and current students as needed
  • Provide management and oversight of NWEA assessment platform
  • Maintain awareness of new and innovative reading programs
  • Hold confidential all knowledge of students and their families

Qualifications
  • Master's Degree in Education, Special Education, Reading
  • Maryland State Department of Education Certification as a Reading Teacher preferred
  • Five years' experience as a Reading teacher
  • Knowledge of formal and informal reading assessments
  • Knowledge of best practice research based reading programs
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to work collaboratively with others
  • Computer skills related to common office tasks such as email, conducting internet searches, and using MSOffice (e.g., MSWord, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Flexibility with regard to daily routine and responsibilities
  • School based teaching experience (Preschool through Adult) preferred
  • Extensive knowledge of Common Core English Language Arts standards preferred
  • Knowledge and experience with computer based reading programs, software and resources preferred

Ivymount School and Programs provides school- and community-based services for children and young adults with special needs from throughout the Washington metropolitan area. The school program serves more than 200 students, ages 4 – 21, with speech and language impairments, learning disabilities, intellectual disabilities, health impairments, and Autism Spectrum Disorders. The classrooms are structured to serve students with a range of academic and cognitive abilities, including, in some cases, those who have the potential to obtain a high school diploma. Ivymount Outreach Programs serve students, teachers, and parents to support children with learning and developmental challenges in the community through assessments, evaluations, therapies and professional development. The Maddux School is preschool-2nd grade program that combines creative approaches with traditional early childhood education in a unique transdisciplinary model. The goal in all of the programs is to help children and young adults achieve their highest level of development and independence and to live with dignity and self-respect. Ivymount School has been twice recognized as a Blue Ribbon School of Excellence by the U.S. Department of Education. Founded in 1961, Ivymount is celebrating its 60th year!
