Coordinator of Social Emotional Learning (SEL)

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
Social Emotional Learning Coordinator provides leadership and direction toward ensuring that all students develop the social and emotional skills they need to successfully access the curriculum and forge a positive trajectory in life. The Coordinator leads the development, implementation, and evaluation of a comprehensive approach to SEL while ensuring that all programs align with district priorities and initiatives. The Coordinator partners with directors, school leaders, and other leadership team members to build an integrated approach to SEL and academics.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Develops and maintains systems to effectively manage all aspects of the planning, implementation, and evaluation of social emotional learning.

Provides leadership in the planning and implementation of social emotional learning that are coordinated with the efforts of community agencies, district-wide building coordinators, and schools.

Collaborates with District and school leaders, counselors, educators, parents, community partners, students to coordinate and allocate resources to meet the social and emotional needs of students and build a positive school climate.

Oversees and coordinates all SEL practices, assessments, and interventions to support students

Engages with the latest research, trends, regulations and standards that informs SEL teaching and learning.

Collaborates with District, school and teacher leaders to ensure equitable access to programs and curriculum materials across schools and districts.

Leads the review of SEL programs PreK-12.

Assesses SEL curriculum and programs to measure effectiveness and use data to make decisions

Partners with District and school leaders to implement Multi-Tiered Systems of Support as it relates to SEL.

Forges partnerships with community stakeholders

Supports the effective articulation of and implementation of a District vision for SEL for students and staff.

Develops and monitors short and long-term budgets to support the goals of the PreK-12 SEL program and District.

Coordinates and leads professional development that deepens educators' understanding of teaching and learning in relation to SEL for the full range of learners.

Performs other duties as assigned by the Director of School Counseling

Communicates SEL initiatives and programs to parents and community partners through messaging, updating district website and other forms of communication.

REQUIREMENTS:

Connecticut Administrator's Certification (092) Preferred but not required.

Connecticut Teacher Certification in Social Work (071), School Counseling (068), School Psychology (070) or related service endorsement preferred; Masters Preferred

Minimum of three years of successful teaching experience in Bridgeport Public Schools

At least two years of exemplary teaching, preferably in an urban setting.

Must possess a general understanding and/or had successful experience in the administration of social emotional learning programs at the building or district level.

Demonstrated successful experience in curriculum implementation.

Demonstrated success in working with parents and community in a multicultural setting.

Demonstrated successful experience in pursuing and managing grants.

Demonstrated knowledge of district-wide instructional programs.

Demonstrated success in team building and planning.

Superior oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
