ABOUT THE DISTRICT: MMSD is the second largest school system in Wisconsin and has a student population of approximately 27,000 students in 32 elementary schools, 12 middle schools, 5 high schools, and several alternative programs. Purpose of Position:

The purpose of this position is to develop, promote, maintain, supervise and support after school and summer programs for elementary school age youth.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

Directly supervise 3-4 full time Elementary Site Directors throughout the year.

Work Location: Hoyt Building

Hours of work: 9:00am-6:00pm, hours may vary - weekends/evenings

FTE/Hours Per Week:
Full time (Salaried)

Salary:

Flexible work schedule may include working some weekends and flexible work hours between the hours of 9 am and 8 pm, as assigned by supervisor or dictated by program needs. Typical work schedule - 9am-6pm M-F with flexibility Saturday work

PROFESSIONAL PAY GRADE: 3

Annual Salary Range:

$53, 393.60 - $72, 321.60

Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

Responsibilities include planning, implementing and supervising year-round programs. The following duties are normal for this position. These are not to be construed as exclusive or all-inclusive. Other duties will be required and assigned.
  • Directly supervise and support Site Directors, programs and staff within a region (3 sites)
  • Coordinate and oversee implementation of all aspects of Summer Recreation Enrichment Centers (SREC) including, but not limited to hiring, staffing, schedules, training, partnerships, logistics, supplies, transportation, food service, enrollment, apparel and budget. Collaborate with MMSD Summer School Coordinator to refine partnership, communication and logistics of SREC and Summer School. Initiate and maintain partnerships to provide experiential and outdoor education activities for summer school participants
  • Provide support and supervision for Elementary After School & Summer staff and programs. Provide general support to site directors to problem solve (family crisis, emergencies, transportation issues, etc.). Provide programming resources and ideas for site directors and program staff including, but not limited to templates, systems, program structures, new program development and best practices. Knowledge of positive youth development and asset building required.
  • Hire, train, supervise and evaluate program leaders, instructors and volunteers. Provide coaching and establish and monitor improvement plans with staff as needed.
  • Assess needs, plan and facilitate Professional Development for Site Directors and program staff
  • Conduct program visits to observe, evaluate and give feedback to program staff and partners to ensure program quality and efficacy.
  • Assist with the development of program budgets and monitor expenditures and revenue.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with program personnel, with other MSCR staff, with the public and with community organizations.
  • Track participation statistics, maintain necessary records, develop and submit required reports. Use of Infinite Campus, Data Dashboard & MOST Information System (MIS) to complete necessary reports. Collect participant data from school-based staff, prepare monthly attendance and demographic reports.
  • Assist program administrator with preparing, organizing and presenting materials for meetings, distribute information to staff, attend meetings, develop community partnerships, order and deliver program supplies, etc.
  • Coordinate hiring and placement of seasonal staff for MSCR Elementary Team.
  • Serve as a liaison between school-based staff (MMSD and MSCR) and MSCR administrators to assist with communication, advocacy of needs and promote collaboration.
  • Provide support during program evaluation & self assessment processes to meet DPI and DCF requirements. Participate in CLC grant writing and DPI monitoring visits.
  • Proficiency in use of computer software including Microsoft and Google applications. Ability to use MMSD?s Infinite Campus and Data Dashboard or the ability to learn and use these programs within six months of hire.


Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in recreation management, human service or related field, and a minimum of two years experience working in recreation program planning and supervision of community recreation programs, including supervision of staff and volunteers; or any combination of education and experience that provides equivalent knowledge, skills, and abilities.
  • Organizational skills and the ability to prioritize multiple tasks, work under tight deadlines, and use effective time management.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, and Google docs and other Google applications.
  • Experience working cross-culturally and/or commitment to work towards improving one?s own cultural competence.
