Retirement Contribution: Corvallis School District participates in the Oregon Public Employee Retirement System (PERS and OPSRP) on behalf of its employees. Upon eligibility, the district contributes 6% of an employee's salary to their Individual Account Program (IAP). Eligibility is defined as working at least six full calendar months in a qualifying position. Part-time employees working at least six months and 600 hours in a calendar year will qualify.

PURPOSE: The Communication Coordinator works with district leadership to support effective internal and external communications about 509J school programs, events, initiatives, and key issues. The position will continually develop and oversee systems designed to enhance the relationship between the District and community by providing consistent, reliable, timely and engaging information to parent, staff and community members in methods that reach them.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Manages and expands various communication channels within the District, including social media, video, and marketing efforts.
  • Writes press releases about positive school programs and events.
  • Monitors and updates the district web site, including updating photos on the home page and regularly posting news articles under "What's New."
  • Develops internal and external communications for key operations such as the district budget process.
  • Develops and implement communication plans for newsworthy issues and events as needed.
  • Collaborates closely with superintendent and executive team to strategize and implement communications and marketing plans for the District.
  • Cooperates with district administrators and other staff members, as appropriate, in publicizing and promoting special events, performances, displays, etc by the schools or district.
  • Organizes and update the district's key communicator network and plans communications and activities to effectively utilize the network.
  • Maintains contact with the news media and provides support for responding to media contacts as needed both at the district and building level.
  • Other duties as assigned.

  • Support students and staff in the district's career-related learning standards to encourage the development of independent work skills through career exploration and community involvement.
  • Develop job skills necessary to meet changes in the position.
  • Maintain personal appearance and hygiene appropriate to the position as defined by the district.
  • Meet applicable district physical ability/health and safety guidelines for the position.

QUALIFICATIONS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.   • Bachelor's Degree in communications, marketing, graphic design, multimedia production or other relevant field.
  • Experience in a position of similar responsibility and complexity, involving communications/public relations, marketing, graphic design, social media, videography and/or other related disciplines preferred.
  • Ability to implement coordinated strategies to enhance communications with all stakeholders using a variety of media.
  • Independent self-starter with ability to work in a high-volume, fast-paced environment and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to take information and expand upon to round out a story, create a project plan, etc.
  • Ability to see both big picture and be attentive to detail, learn new things quickly, be creative in both problem-solving and idea-generation, and discern the essential from the non-essential.
  • Communication skills, in both oral and written form, that: employ effective listening tools and skills; demonstrate the ability to interact effectively and collaboratively with diverse individuals or groups; effectively coach people through difficult issues as needed; are marked by credibility; inspire confidence; and observe confidentiality.
  • Ability to understand and interpret collective bargaining agreements, policies, administrative rules, and related documents.
  • Demonstrated program/project management skills, creative thinking, and commitment to quality.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage and deliver effective customer service.
  • Mastery of office equipment and technology.
  • Ability to travel among district facilities as needed; if driving, the ability to meet district driving standards.
