  • LEAD TEACHER - Career-Technical Education Instructional Coach

    Reports to: High School Principal

    Purpose: The Career-Technical Education Instructional Coach is a critical lever in improving student achievement for those students currently enrolled in industry-credentialing programs. The role of the coach is to build teacher capacity and their understanding of instructional practices as related to standards specific to each industry credentialing program and Data Driven Instruction. An Instructional Coach is one who models continuous improvement, lifelong learning, and goes above and beyond to ensure student success. All instructional coaches work collaboratively as a team with members of the Curriculum and Instruction Department, the Technology Department, and building administration. Instructional coaches will promote reflection, provide guidance and structure where needed, and focus on strengths, collaboration and common issues of concern. They are responsible for ensuring high-quality instruction in classrooms through modeling, co-planning, co-teaching and providing feedback to teachers. The Instructional Coach will demonstrate and model a passion for urban education reform and leadership. This is NOT a supervisory position and DOES NOT include evaluation of colleagues.

    Preferred Qualifications:
    • A minimum of a Master's degree from an accredited college or university in Elementary Education, Secondary Education or related area.
    • State of Ohio certification/licensure in teaching.
    • Minimum of five years successful experience as a classroom teacher in a career-technical education setting.


    Job Description:
    • Model lessons in classrooms on a daily/weekly basis.
    • Coach the instructional development of all teachers in understanding the Ohio Learning Standards curriculum and varied assessments, the Framework for Teaching, and data analysis.
    • Build strong relationships with teachers and other coaches.
    • Provide direction and coordination for how the curriculum is taught consistent with District initiatives and recognized best instructional practices.
    • Assist with the organization of program specific advisory councils
    • Attend selected professional development and state training opportunities related to the oversight, implementation, and successful operation of the career-technical education programs in the district

    • Assist with the writing and completion of any career-technical education compliance forms to continue the successful operation of new and existing programs

    • Serve as an additional point of contact for building counselors and EMIS coordinator in the collection, interpretation, and dissemination of data that impacts career-technical education

    • Assist teachers in understanding ECCSD mission and core values.
    • Provide technical support to collaborative teams within buildings. Assist teachers with resources, materials, tools, information, etc. to support classroom instruction and planning, including new resources.
    • Support teachers in using data to improve instruction on all levels.
    • Assist teachers with planning and pacing of lessons, the development of differentiated lessons, UDL, and the selection of best practices to meet the needs of their students.
    • Support teachers by helping with the ?strategic how of teaching -- share multiple instructional strategies/processes with teachers during planning times.
    • Develop staff members' knowledge, skills, attitudes, and behaviors through a variety of professional development targeted topics and designs.
    • Provide job-embedded informal professional learning beyond the coaching responsibility.
    • Submit a weekly coaching log and any pertinent data requests/coaching documentation.
    • Perform any other duties as assigned by the immediate supervisor, the high school principal and/or CEO & Superintendent

    Other Requirements:
    • Evidence of training and presentation skills.
    • Excellent interpersonal communication skills, both oral and written.
    • Evidence of successful history in working within all populations.
    • Minimum 5 years' experience teaching in Career and Technical Field, with a record of successfully impacting student achievement and working successfully with students who have the greatest needs.
    • Proven ability to work cooperatively and effectively with colleagues, including the ability to create and nurture a professional community of adult learners.
    • Demonstrated leadership qualities and strong interpersonal skills, including giving and receiving constructive feedback.
    • Proven ability in using student-level data to guide instructional decisions.
    • Demonstrated Teacher Leadership.
    • Strong pedagogical knowledge and content expertise.
    • Demonstrated expertise in oral and written communication.
    • Strong interpersonal skills.
    • Models continual improvement, demonstrates lifelong learning, and applies new learning to help all students achieve.
    • Demonstrates evidence of professional growth, including leadership and participation in a wide range of significant professional development activities.
