    Title: 6th Grade English Language Arts Teacher - Roosevelt Middle School ( 2 positions Available)
    Reports To: Building Principal
    Salary Range: $45,359-$57,445
    FLSA Status: Exempt
    2021-2022School Year

    Position Summary: Instructs middle school students in class environment favorable to learning and personal growth; establishing effective rapport with pupils; motivating pupils to develop skills, attitudes, and knowledge needed to provide a good foundation in accordance with each pupil's ability; and establishing good relationships with parents and with other staff members.
    Minimum Qualifications:
    • Education: Bachelor's Degree.
    • Experience: Ability to work cooperatively and collaboratively with others, demonstrate self-discipline and initiative. Follow state and district guidelines.
    • License: Illinois Certification in Elementary Education and/ or applicable fields.
    Responsibilities and Essential Functions: The following duties are representative of performance expectations. A reasonable accommodation may be made to enable a qualified individual with a disability to perform essential functions.
    1. Teaches courses in area of certification to Middle School pupils, using the Common Core Standards and any acceptable curriculum, the standards and benchmarks identified for each course, and other curriculum publications as guidelines in teaching individual course content.
    2. Instruct pupils in citizenship and basic subject matter specified in state law and administrative regulations and procedures of the school district.
    3. Develops lesson plans and instructional materials stressing discovery and laboratory learning as necessary depending on subject taught.
    4. Demonstrate subject matter concepts and examples using models, Smartboard, overhead projector, computers, Chromebooks or any other standard or approved teacher-prepared instructional aids.
    5. Translates lesson plans into learning experiences so as to best utilize the available time for instruction.
    6. Provides opportunities when needed for individualized and small-group instruction to adapt the curriculum to the needs of the pupils.
    7. Utilizes grading patterns that are fairly administered and based on identified criteria.
    8. Establishes and maintains standards of pupil behavior needed to achieve a functional learning atmosphere in the classroom. Treat pupils with respect and dignity.
    9. Evaluates pupils' academic growth, keeps appropriate records, and prepares progress reports.
    10. Selects and requisitions books, instructional aids, and instructional supplies; maintains required inventory records.
    11. Communicates with parents through conferences and other means to discuss pupil's progress and interpret the school program. Interacts with pupils, staff and parents in a positive and professional manner.
    12. Identifies pupil needs and cooperates with other professional staff members in assessing and helping pupils solve health, attitude, and learning problems.
    13. Establish rapport with pupils and provides a pleasant, safe, and orderly climate conducive to learning.
    14. Actively participate in full implementation of the curriculum created by the curriculum team.
    15. Maintains professional competence through in-service education activities provided by the district and self-selected professional growth activities.
    16. Supervises pupils in and out-of-class activities during the assigned working day.
    17. Administers group- standardized tests in accordance with the district testing program.
    18. Participates in curriculum development programs as required.
    19. Participates in faculty committees and the sponsorship of pupil activities.
    20. Enforces school board policies and regulations.

    • Knowledge of principles and methods for curriculum and training design, teaching, and instruction for individuals and groups, and the measurement of training effects.
    • Keen ability to use data in the decision making process and strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
    • Ability to continuously elevate professional contributions through ongoing reflection, building upon previous learning and being open and receptive to ongoing feedback.
    • Active listening skill- Giving full attention to what other people are saying, taking time to understand the points being made, asking questions as appropriate, and not interrupting at inappropriate times.
    • Judgment and decision-making skills- Considering the relative costs and benefits of potential actions to choose the most appropriate one.
    • Excellent interpersonal communication and writing skills.
    Working Conditions: Exposure to the following situations may range from remote to frequent based on circumstances and factors that may not be predictable.
    • Subject to stress caused by a changing environment, tight deadlines and heavy workload.
    • Frequent use of electronic mail.
    • Accidents improbable outside of minor injuries, such as cuts, scrapes, or bruises.
    • No exposure to chemical or health hazards.
    • Primarily require working indoors in environmentally controlled conditions.
    • Normal effort or occasional periods of light physical activity.

    Evaluation: Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with the provisions set forth in the Bellwood Education Association Collective Bargaining Agreement.
