Special Education Teacher
Reports to: Building Principal
FLSA Status: Exempt
Salary Range: $46,500- $59,000
Position Summary: Instructs elementary students in class environment favorable to learning and personal growth; establishing effective rapport with pupils; motivating pupils to develop skills, attitudes, and knowledge needed to provide a good foundation for upper elementary grade education, in accordance with each pupil's ability; and establishing good relationships with parents and with other staff members.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Education: Bachelor's Degree.
- License: Professional Educator License and hold endorsement(s)in the appropriate areas as required by the Illinois State Board of Education.
- Teaches courses in area of certification to elementary school pupils, using the Common Core Standards and any acceptable curriculum, the standards and benchmarks identified for each course, and other curriculum publications as guidelines in teaching individual course content.
- Instruct pupils in citizenship and basic subject matter specified in state law and administrative regulations and procedures of the school district.
- Develops lesson plans and instructional materials stressing discovery and laboratory learning as necessary depending on subject taught.
- Demonstrate subject matter concepts and examples using models, Smartboard, overhead projector, computers, Chromebooks or any other standard or approved teacher-prepared instructional aids.
- Translates lesson plans into learning experiences so as to best utilize the available time for instruction.
- Provides opportunities when needed for individualized and small-group instruction to adapt the curriculum to the needs of the pupils.
- Utilizes grading patterns that are fairly administered and based on identified criteria.
- Experience working in a diverse settings, with proven management and team building skill.
- Strong record of helping to achieve and sustain goals
- Commitment to the belief that all students can learn and to the mission of educational equity.
- Capacity to define a vision, build teams and achieve results despite tremendous obstacles.
Evaluation: Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with the provisions set forth in the Bellwood Education Association Collective Bargaining Agreement and Board of Education.
