Job Summary
The Student Nutrition Programs Specialist I administers related school nutrition programs through tracking, providing information, answering questions, and directing workflow. The position has a retirement association with the Public Employees' Retirement System (PERS).

Job Requirements
The following are required:
  1. An associate's degree in business management, public administration, or equivalent. Experience in child nutrition programs may be substituted for this requirement.Knowledge of federal and state administrative practices.Knowledge of the methods and practices of compiling, preparing, and presenting state and federal regulation documentation.Ability to prepare and maintain accurate records and reports.Ability to make independent decisions and communicate effectively with others.Ability to establish and maintain productive working relationships with others.

The following are preferred:
  1. Microsoft Office certification.Experience in child nutrition program administration, specifically in Free and Reduced eligibility.

Essential Job Functions
  1. Collects, processes, and maintains records regarding the Free and Reduced Lunch program.Administers the National School Lunch Program, and the School Breakfast Program. Responsible for application and record retention for these programs.Processes all Free and Reduced Lunch applications in a timely manner.Coordinates with the state on all public assistance records used by Student Nutrition for the Free and Reduced Lunch program.Operates multiple software systems to achieve program success.Fields phone calls, answers public inquiries, and troubleshoots eligibility issues under the guidance of the programs specialist II and business manager.Creates training material and public release material for the National School Lunch program, School Breakfast program, and Free and Reduced Lunch program.Directs workflow to appropriate work units within Student Nutrition.

Physical/Mental Demands
The physical demands of this job require frequent standing, walking, sitting, speaking, and hearing. Specific visual abilities are also required. The employee is regularly required to reach with his/her hands and arms and occasionally lift items weighing less than 40 lbs. Additionally, the employee must be able to communicate by oral and written means in an appropriate business manner and have cognitive skills to understand instructions, readily recall facts and details, handle conflict, and make effective decisions under pressure. The employee must have the ability to effectively manage the stress of working with students, parents, and other employees representing diverse cultures, personalities, and work styles in a dynamic work environment.

Work is performed in a professional environment with a wide variety of individuals having differing functions, personalities and abilities, including working with diverse groups of people in a variety of different settings.

While performing the duties of this job the employee may be regularly exposed to a video display. The employee may be exposed to outdoor weather conditions. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
