Under the direct supervision of the building administrator with the support of the Director of English Language Learners, the English Learner Collaborative (ELC) teacher is primarily responsible for providing direct English Language Development instruction, as necessary and appropriate, to English Learners placed in the ELC program. The ELC teacher should ensure that appropriate supports for ELC students are in place to meet their language development needs. The ELC teacher is also responsible for using district approved software to maintain accurate records and data to monitor the progress and inform the instruction of identified English Learners

The Elementary ELC Teacher will provide direct instruction to ELL students as necessary and appropriate. The Elementary ELC Teacher, as appropriate, will monitor the progress of identified ELL students within the school. The Elementary ELC teacher will work in coordination with administrative teams, coach teams, RTI teams, and any addition student support teams as appropriate.

Roles & Responsibilities
  • Provide direct instruction of English Language Development to identified ELC students based on most recent dataProvide recommendations for programming and placement of ELs in the buildingCollaborate with school and district level staff to continuously improve instruction for English LearnersWork in conjunction with principals and faculty to develop and sustain professional learning communities at the school sitesWork with administration and teachers to consistently use effective teaching practices to incorporate the Language Standards into all content areas.Work with the principal and leadership team to ensure frequent monitoring and assessment of student learningBe knowledgeable of current teaching methodologies, strategies and research for implementation of language development supportsBuild an understanding of second language acquisition (i.e culturally responsive classroom, language development, classroom environment, instructional modifications, and best practices, etc.) for all educators working with ELsServe as a resource in identifying appropriate instructional strategies and interventions for English Learners as they acquire English and content knowledgeEnsure the effective and equitable integration of EL students in the general education settingProvide assistance to colleagues in making the CCSS and the Next Generation Science Standards accessible to ELs at their current grade levelsBuild capacity of General Education, Special Education, and itinerant teachers to meet the language development needs of ELsCollaborate with Teacher Support Teams to develop and implement plans designed to assist struggling English Learners.Participate in IEP meetings for English Learners, acting as EL liaison and team member to provide information and interpret data in relation to second language acquisition, time in program, educational history, and student demographics.Ensure all ELs receive appropriate EL accommodations for local and state assessmentsSupport state and local administration of assessments while adhering as closely as possible to daily scheduleAssist with assessment administration, record keeping, and reporting as required in conjunction with the Office of Research, Planning and AccountabilitySupport teachers in interpreting data and student information in relation to second language learners/acquisitionPerform all other duties as assignedAssist in the implementation of all state and locally mandated assessments in which ELLs participateMaintain, organize and share data as appropriateMaintain grades as appropriate
