The Office of Innovation and Accountability develops and delivers data-focused solutions to support school improvement and better inform decisions across the Providence Public School District (PPSD). If we're successful, all stakeholders working with and for our students will have the right data at the right time to make decisions in those students' best interests.

The Data & Performance Specialist will play a critical role in this effort. This position will be responsible for managing internal and external data requests, leading the district's data governance council, and ensuring all mandated federal reporting requirements are met. This critical work will ensure timely, accurate data are at the fingertips of decision-makers across the district.

This position reports to PPSD's Director of Data and Accountability.

Roles & Responsibilities
Manage Data Requests
  • Establish a unified internal data request process to ensure timely fulfillment of data queries from customers at all levelsIdentify and categorize the multitude of data requests from internal and external partiesCollaborate with other district leaders to develop a method to prioritize which data requests get addressed firstIdentify the data requests that are recurring and develop a plan for how to proactively meet these requests on an ongoing basis

Lead Data Governance
  • In collaboration with others, identify/Determine the critical data needs of district leaders, principals, and teachers to enable them to make the best decisions impacting studentsDesign and execute a data governance strategyDevelop and standardize business processes to enable accurate entry of critical data into the district's systemsReestablish the Data Governance Council, including developing the purpose and charter for the council, key roles, and structure and frequency of meetingsLead Data Governance Council meetings, including establishing meeting agendas, facilitating meetings, and following up on action items discussed
Analyze and Visualize Data
  • Develop replicable code to acquire, integrate, clean, and analyze data for a multitude of analysis and reporting projectsApply statistical methods to assessment, survey, and other administrative data to develop descriptive and inferential resultsDesign data reports and dashboards in Tableau that provide district leaders with the information they need in a timely mannerVisualize and write-up results in slide decks and decision memos for key stakeholdersAssume other duties as may be delegated by supervisors.

Salary Rate Range
$83,644 - $97,376

Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree with a concentration or coursework in assessment, evaluation and research or related fields from an accredited college or universityFive or more years of experience in performance and evaluation management, assessment, and data analysis

Qualifications
  • Project management experience, requiring the ability to collaborate with multiple departments and personnel to achieve project objectivesAbility to use a statistical programming language (Stata, SPSS, R, Python) to manipulate and analyze dataExperience with Tableau or similar data visualization toolsExpert knowledge of Microsoft Excel and other Office applicationsFamiliarity with educational measurement, including formative and summative assessments and surveysExcellent quantitative thinking, including the ability to examine available data, apply decision rules and analytical methods and produce meaningful resultsStrong attention to detail and a fundamental concern for the accuracy of information, including the ability to organize large amounts of data and track multiple projects simultaneouslyPassionate commitment to improving public education and accelerating achievement among underserved studentsCommitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and anti-racismHistory of realizing exceptional outcomes under time and resource constraints and in times of ambiguityOutstanding project management skills - ability to see the big picture and to manage detailsExceptional problem-solving, critical thinking, and planning skillsStrong written and oral communication skillsYou must complete the new hire compliance training prior to your first day of employmentBilingual PreferredSelected candidate will be required to pass a pre-employment criminal history background check.
