Job Title: Supervisor I - Custodial

Reports to: Manager II - Custodial Operations

GENERAL PURPOSE

Responsible for supervising custodial services and activities; overseeing assigned personnel; providing information to others; and scheduling work assignments within established timeframes and standards.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

Coordinate with district and school site personnel for the purpose of implementing and maintaining services and/or programs.

Inspect custodial work at assigned sites for the purpose of ensuring site safety, maintaining cleaning standards, organizing and scheduling needed maintenance.

Maintains custodial equipment ensuring the availability of equipment in safe operating condition.

Oversees workload of assigned custodial teams thus maximizing the efficiency of the work force and meeting operational requirements.

Oversees a preventive maintenance program for custodial equipment.

Participate in meetings, workshops, and seminars for the purpose of conveying and gathering information regarding a wide variety of subjects required to carry out supervisory responsibilities.

Participate in meetings for the purpose of identifying appropriate actions, developing recommendations, supporting other staff, and serving as lead for assigned work units.

Perform a variety of personnel related

Prepare a variety of materials documenting activities, providing written reference, and/or conveying information.

Procure maintenance equipment and materials for the purpose of recommending and assisting in the selection of supplies and equipment.

Recommend plans, specifications and/or cost estimates in order to provide information on required equipment and facility maintenance.

Respond to emergencies at assigned sites for the purpose of determining and implementing appropriate actions required to resolve situation.

Respond to a variety of inquiries and identify the relevant issues, recommend or implement a plan of action that will efficiently resolve the issues.

Train custodians within assigned teams for the purpose of ensuring proper cleaning and building maintenance techniques, injury prevention, and addressing legal compliance requirements.

Performs other related duties as required/assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS

Education and Experience

High School Diploma or its equivalent.

Minimum of two (2) years of job related experience with increasing levels of responsibility is required.

Certificates, Licenses and Other Special Requirements

Must pass a Criminal Background Check

Must have a valid Driver's License with evidence of insurability.

Must pass a pre-employment physical and drug screen.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Knowledge of algebra and/or geometry; read a variety of manuals, write documents following prescribed formats, and/or present information to others; and understand complex, multi-step written and oral instructions.

Knowledge based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include personnel processes; pertinent policies regulations and/or laws; education code; understanding of chemical & cleaning processes; and budget management and accounting.

Skill to perform multiple, technical tasks with a need to routinely upgrade skills in order to meet changing job conditions.

Skill based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job, including: operating standard office equipment including utilizing pertinent software applications; planning and managing projects; budgeting and financial management; and developing effective working relationships.

Ability to read technical information, compose a variety of documents, and/or facilitate group discussions.

Working Conditions and Physical Requirements

Work environment is indoors and outdoors with regular exposure to weather conditions; in proximity to moving mechanical parts and electrical equipment; and in confined spaces.

The work is medium work that requires exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 30 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.

Must possess the physical ability to work primarily with fingers, perceive the nature of sounds, make rational decisions through sound logic and deductive processes, express or exchange ideas by the spoken word, substantial movements (motions) with the hands, wrists, and/or fingers, and discern letters or numbers at a given distance.
