Job Summary
The IT Programmer is a key technical resource, providing advice, training, and technical support for various projects. In addition, the Programmer works closely with professional staff in the IT management team in evaluating current systems and making decisions on future development. The position has a retirement association with the Public Employees' Retirement System (PERS).

Job Requirements
The following are required:
  1. A bachelor's degree in computer science or related field. Equivalent experience, education, and training may be considered in lieu of the degree requirement.A minimum of one year of experience in programming, computer science, or equivalent experience.Ability to apply creativity and curiosity to solve technical, logical, and analytical problems.Ability to create intuitive user experiences through applications and interfaces.Ability to collaborate effectively with all levels of management, supervision, and other Anchorage School District personnel.Willingness to lean in to get the job done, bug free and on schedule.

The following are preferred:
  1. Familiarity with Windows and Macintosh environments.Demonstrated proficiency with several of the following: Javascript, HTML, CSS, .NET (C#, VB.NET), Python, PowerShell, Git, MS SQL Server (T-SQL, SSRS, SSIS, etc.), Tableau, Crystal Reports.Experience with educational as well as business data processing applications.Experience with business process analysis.

Essential Job Functions
  1. Provides excellent end user support.Develops, tests, debugs, and implements new programs according to supplied specifications using a certain degree of creativity and latitude, under general supervision of a systems analyst or programmer analyst.Revises existing programs from definitions provided by analysts.Serves as a member of a project team in major development efforts.Maintains and expands technical skills related to programming, software design, and computer applications.Documents each written or modified program.

Physical/Mental Demands
The physical demands of this job require frequent standing, walking, sitting, speaking, and hearing. Specific visual abilities are also required. The employee is regularly required to reach with his/her hands and arms and occasionally lift items weighing less than 40 lbs. Additionally, the employee must be able to communicate by oral and written means in an appropriate business manner and have cognitive skills to understand instructions, readily recall facts and details, handle conflict, and make effective decisions under pressure. The employee must have the ability to effectively manage the stress of working with students, parents, and other employees representing diverse cultures, personalities, and work styles in a dynamic work environment.

Work is performed in a professional environment with a wide variety of individuals having differing functions, personalities and abilities, including working with diverse groups of people in a variety of different settings.

While performing the duties of this job the employee may be regularly exposed to a video display. The employee may be exposed to outdoor weather conditions. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
