    REPORTS TO: Director of Special Education

    POSITION SUMMARY:
    Responsible for assisting administrators, teachers, and special education staff in providing supports and services to special education students. Develops IEPs and performs psycho-educational assessment of students' kindergarten through the twelfth grade. Leads MTSS at 3 rd -8 th grade school. Participates in crisis management and provides consultation with staff in the development of appropriate behavior goals. Possesses an understanding of best practices for special education programs and services.

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
    • Performs psycho-educational assessment of students' kindergarten through the twelfth grade.
    • Consults with staff, students and parents,
    • Makes recommendations for developmentally appropriate services and strategies to assist in improving student achievement.
    • Has a good understanding of best practices for special education programs and services.
    • Participates in crisis management by counseling and or making referrals.
    • Counsels students, consults with parents (in groups and individually) and consults with staff in the development of appropriate behavior goals.
    • Interprets test data, researches available tests necessary to meet individual school needs, provides in-service training for staff on standardized administration technique, and interprets individual and group test data to staff and parents.

    Student Evaluation and Services
    • Lead cognitive testing for students that helps the special education team and families to better understand each learner's needs.
    • Provide services to students in a variety of settings-one on one sessions, small groups, and consults with staff in the development of appropriate behavior goals
    • Collaborates with school and team members to determine the services needed for each student, based on their IEP goals and requirements, their personal goals, and other school-based goals for their learning and development.


    POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
    Licenses or Certification
    Must hold a Special Services license issued by CDE.

    Education
    Master's degree in Psychology

    Experience
    • Must possess a Colorado Department of Education Special Service Provider License with an endorsement in School Psychology.
    • Experience in the administration and interpretation of a variety of test instruments to evaluate cognitive ability, learning aptitudes, academic skills and eligibility for special education.
    • Experience using consultation techniques that allow for providing effective techniques that address problems in learning and behavior.
    • Experience working with culturally diverse populations.
    • Prefer applicants with experience working in a school setting, but not required.
    • Ability to speak both English and Spanish preferred.

    ESSENTIAL PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
    The usual and customary methods of performing the job's functions required the following physical demands: some lifting up to 50 pounds, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling: and signification fine finger dexterity. Generally the job requires sitting, walking, and standing. This job is performed in generally a clean and healthy environment.

    SUPERVISORY DUTIES:
    None

    CLEARANCE:Must clear background check through the CBI and the FBI through Fingerprint submission.

    SALARY:Placement on Licensed Salary Schedule based upon previous teaching experience and highest degree and college credits earned after student teaching was completed. Current Board approved Licensed Teacher Salary Schedule, Salary Placement Policy, and Master Agreement are available forreview on our district website at www.ssd2.org. Highest initial step placement on the Licensed Salary Schedule is Step 9.

    BENEFITS:
    Employees who are scheduled to work 30 or more hours per week in the 2021/2022 school year are eligible to obtain district health benefits which include medical, dental, vision, life and disability insurance and supplemental benefits. Positions that qualify for health benefits also qualify for leave which could include vacation and daily leave to be determined by the position and number of days assigned. Sheridan School District No. 2 is a public employer and participates in the Colorado Public Employees' Retirement Association (PERA). All employees are required by statute to contribute 10.5% of salary on a pre-tax basis to PERA. The District also contributes a 20.40% in addition to the employee contribution.
