Job Description

Social-Emotional Learning (SEL) Coach

FUNCTIONAL PURPOSE

The purpose of this position to assists in implementing Social-Emotional Learning (SEL) strategies across schools to ensure a positive school climate that supports students' social and emotional needs. This position provides direct support to school leaders, teachers, and staff on social-emotional learning programming, including standards, curriculum, assessment, and professional development striving to ensure daily practices are aligned with the district's SEL strategic plan.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Consults with the Director of Social-Emotional Learning and Restorative Practices and school-based SEL leadership to identify SEL priorities, develop action plans, build capacity of school teams, and monitor and support implementation progress at assigned schools.

• Plans, designs, and leads ongoing professional learning opportunities to improve understanding and implementation of SEL.

• Provides programmatic leadership in school climate and SEL that is based on research and best practices and aligned with district and team priorities; and plans, develops, and delivers training and technical assistance for school-based staff.

• Supports schools in developing school-based teams, cultivating ownership of SEL implementation, and promoting practices that support SEL for adults and students.

• Provides regular updates to SEL Leadership team and district staff regarding progress at assigned schools.

• Collaborates with school-based staff to support teachers with implementation of best practices to promote SEL, establishes supportive learning environments, and develops supportive classroom management practices.

• Provides interactive and relevant professional development to school leaders and staff designed to increase development of academic, social, and emotional supports for students.

• Uses data to identify and deliver school-specific targeted support and coaching to build the capacity of school staff in strategies and interventions to support positive school climate.

• Builds relationships and collaborates with various internal departments to drive collaboration and SEL integration and implementation success.

• Maintains records and provides a monthly report of services provided.

• Identifies and disseminates current and appropriate resources for educating stakeholders about social and emotional learning.

• Adheres to laws, policies, procedures, and ethical standards.

• Performs other related duties as assigned.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

• Deep knowledge of instructional practices that promote supportive learning environments and build social and emotional skills.

• Knowledge of adult learning styles and best practices for coaching and providing feedback.

• Ability to develop respectful professional relationships and build trust with teachers.

• Knowledge of best practices in Multi-Tiered Systems of Support to meet students' social and emotional needs.

• Cultural competency and ability to navigate and promote sensitivity with issues of race and equity.

• Ability to coordinate and collaborate with diverse groups of professionals across multiple departments and organizations.

• Experience coordinating and delivering professional development for a variety of internal and external stakeholders.

• Skilled multi-tasker and excellent time manager; ability to effectively achieve multiple goals and manage multiple projects simultaneously.

• Passion and urgency for the critical role of SEL for improving the lives of students and families in Forsyth County.

• Proficiency in MS Office Suite (e.g., Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint).

• Ability to travel between multiple school and district locations.

• Thorough knowledge of federal, state, and local policies and procedures regarding instruction.

• Considerable knowledge of School Board policies, procedures, and standards.

• Ability to maintain and complete accurate records, generate statistics, and develop meaningful reports from the data.

• Ability to assess the effectiveness of programs and activities.

• Ability to develop long-range plans.

• Ability to effectively express ideas orally and in writing.

• Ability to make oral presentations before large groups of people.

• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships as necessitated by work assignments including students, parents, school personnel and members of the business community.

Job Qualification

Pay Grade Certified Salary Schedule | Full-Time | 10 Months | Position Only Funded Up to 3 years

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

• Minimum: Bachelor's Degree in Education, Social Work, Psychology or related field and seven years' experience working to support students and adults within educational institution.

• Desirable: Master's Degree and/or certification in Education, Special Education, Educational Administration, Social Work, Psychology or related field and seven years' work experience within education institution (Teacher, Assistant Principal, SEL or Graduation Coach, Behavior Specialist, Interventionist, etc.).

CERTIFICATION AND LICENSURE REQUIREMENTS:

• Fully Certified/Highly Qualified NC Teacher License

• Valid NC Driver's License
