Under the general direction of the ESL Director, the ESL Instructional Specialist (12 months) is primarily responsible for assisting ESL and mainstream teachers with improving the quality of instruction for the District's English language learners.
Reports To : Director, English as a Second Language
Salary :
Aligned to the 12 Month/Calendar Year PFT Professional Salary Schedule
Qualifications :
Candidate must be committed to continuous improvement with the fundamental goal of advancing student achievement in an urban public school district. In addition, we are seeking candidates with the following educational and experiential requirements and knowledge, skills, and abilities:
- Program Specialist certification issued by Pennsylvania Department of Education
- Experience teaching English Language Learners required; experience doing so in an urban public school District preferred
- Knowledge of Pennsylvania ELD standards, initiatives and assessments
- Extensive knowledge of content-based pedagogy, assessment and technology
- Experience managing projects, meeting goals, and project deliverables highly desirable
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Effective communications and interpersonal skills
- Experience with public speaking and presentations
- Experience in developing/delivering professional development workshop
- Proven ability to build positive relationships with principals, teachers, and other school staff to support the learning of English Learners
Residency Requirements : No Residency Requirement
Essential Job Functions :
1. Review and demonstrate ESL instructional techniques
2. Model lessons and support teachers (ESL and mainstream) at least 80% of the week in schools.
3. Assist instructional personnel with assessment questions
4. Locate materials for instructional personnel as needed
5. Assist teachers with scheduling, placement, and differentiation
6. Assist mainstream classroom teachers with adaptations
7. Maintain an online clearinghouse of teacher resources
8. Collaborate on ESL Summer professional learning opportunities
9. Assist with WIDA ACCESS testing and WIDA Screening per the ESL Director
