    Instructional assistant features and responsibilities
    Essential Features

    Interested candidates must have at least an Associates degree or 60 college credits. A degree in science preferred.
    • Demonstrates knowledge in the areas of reading, writing and mathematics.
    • Demonstrates significant knowledge of biology, chemistry and physics to be able to prepare labs for high school students. Knowledge should include, but not be limited to, the ability to create solutions, identify specific lab materials, prepare biological cultures.
    • Effectively prepares and breaks down labs by communicating clearly with staff, following directly efficiently and effectively, responding to requests in a timely manner.
    • Effectively maintains the science stock rooms by maintaining a safe, organized and clean environment, keeping track of all essential materials and equipment, and communicating with staff about the upkeep or ordering of materials.
    • Assists colleagues in a positive manner
    • Follows all policies and procedures set forth by the school district, including science safety protocols
    • Proactively manages all aspects of the stock rooms.

    Responsibilities (includes but is not limited to)

    1. Lab set-up for all teachers
    • Put together all lab materials (solutions, equipment, preparations, etc.) for teachers. Advanced notice (from teachers) of 24 hours required.
    • Communication with Lead Science teacher (LF, or LF designee).

    2. Clean up and organization of biology, chemistry and physics lab prep rooms
    • Clean up of completed labs from teachers.
    • Restocking of materials and equipment.
    • General cleanliness of room.

    3. Equipment inventory
    • Keeping track of amounts of materials.

    4. Serve as an instructional aide in the classroom as needed by teacher
    • Can help teachers with the distribution, monitoring, or other non- instructional classroom responsibility during a lab.

    5. Miscellaneous department duties
    • Photocopying during high volume times of year, like week before midterms and final exams.
    • Retrieving mail from main office.

    6. Filing and organization of MSDS sheets

    A completed application must include a letter of interest, resume, copy of transcripts and at least three current letters of reference.
