Job Description
Contingent upon funding

The essential function of the position within the organization is to provide professional leadership, consultation and support of the District's science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) education programming. The position is responsible for supporting teachers and administrators in meeting identified goals in STEM education programs, assisting schools in obtaining necessary classroom materials and other resources, assisting in the development and implementation of special programs and services as assigned, and performing related professional and administrative duties as required. The position develops and implements programs within organizational policies; reports major activities to the Executive Director of Teaching and Learning through conferences and reports under the direction of the Supervisor of Science and Stem

Roles & Responsibilities
  • Works with the Supervisor of Science and STEM to provide science content related professional leadership, consultation and support of the District's science education teachers to help ensure effective classroom instruction and programming.Reviews and makes recommendations for changes as appropriate in District policies and procedures related to the science education program.Interprets the District's science education program and related policies to the general public.Assists the Supervisor of Science and STEM, program specialists, teachers and school administrators in meeting identified goals in science instruction.Ensures all science teachers are able to teach national and state standards-based lessons.Attends and participates in Instructional Services, Curriculum and Instruction, District Technology Team and District Planning Team meetings.Serves as consultant to science teachers and school administrators in the development and implementation of science curricula and special STEM programs, and supports in the evaluation and selection of teaching materials.Shares effective instructional strategies with teachers both individually and through in-service workshops; co-teaches or visits teachers in schools to model lesson instruction;observes teachers in the classroom as scheduled and/or as requested by principals;makes recommendations for improvement in performance as appropriate;offers advice and assistance related to science and STEM instruction as needed;provides opportunities for teachers to obtain appropriate professional development through workshops and graduate courses;analyzes state and District science assessment data to help target professional development needs.Provides testing support by providing teachers with standardized test preparation materials, analyzing test results, and conducting related meetings and workshops


Salary Rate Range

$80,940 - $83,166

RIDE Requirements
RI Teacher License in one of the Sciences
or
Math or Math Specialist/Consultant Certificate

Building Level Administrator or Curriculum and Instruction preferred
ESL Preferred

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university in science related studies AND five (5) or more years of successful classroom experience OR Master's Degree in science related studies or school leadership.Master's degree preferredAdministrative or supervisory experience desirable.Successful recent leadership experiences in assessing program needs, curriculum development, program implementation and staff training; or other combinations of applicable education, training and experience which provides the knowledge, abilities and skills necessary to perform effectively in the position may be considered.Experience in test development, curriculum development, and grant writing desirable.Experience with computers and instructional technology application.Experience using instructional technology to support teaching and learning, curriculum development, staff training, and program and student accountability.Significant K-12 urban leadership experience in assessing program needs, curriculum development, program implementation and staff training; or other combinations of applicable education, training and experience which provides the knowledge, abilities and skills necessary to perform effectively in the position may be considered.Knowledge of research-based curriculum, instruction and assessment practices.Outstanding organizational skills and high attention to detail; outstanding written and oral communication skills.Ability to manage multiple priorities, adapt to change quickly and meet deadlines.Proactive problem solver who demonstrates initiative.Strong work ethic coupled with an enthusiastic and passionate approach to one's work.Commitment to the belief that all students can learn, to educational equity, and to the PPSD visionYou must complete the new hire compliance training prior to your first day of employmentBilingual PreferredSelected candidate will be required to pass a pre-employment criminal history background check.
