Literacy Specialist (.8 FTE)

The candidate must possess a strong knowledge base in literacy intervention and be experienced in a wide range of literacy interventions for students with individualized education plans. The candidate must have knowledge of special education specifically in the area of specific learning disabilities in reading, writing and dyslexia. The candidate must also exhibit excellent oral and written communication skills, be well organized, and work collaboratively with colleagues across the District to support student reading and writing programming and interventions and professional development for colleagues.
Should hold endorsement 102 (Remedial RD&LA 1-12). A special education endorsement is preferred.

Job Description:
  • Maintain the Pupil Services literacy assessment library, including the purchase of new and/or updated assessment tools.
  • Maintain the Pupil Services literacy resource library, including the purchase of new tools, texts and curriculums.
  • Provide professional development, training and coaching for teachers and/or teams.
  • Manage subscriptions and student licenses for online curriculum access (ie. Reading Horizons, Language Live!).
  • Participate as a member of the District Dyslexia Committee.
  • Consult with school-based teams on literacy evaluations and interventions.
  • Provide consultation and support to intensive academic teams on literacy programming.
  • Support teachers with intervention, progress monitoring, and programming options.

Educational Background and Work Experience:
  • 5-7 years of experience in literacy intervention with concentration in special education preferred
  • Ability to analyze student data to make informed recommendations for literacy instruction
  • Ability to design systems for organization and maintenance of the Literacy Library
  • Ability to design and implement professional learning structures and opportunities for teachers
  • Knowledge and experience with dyslexia indentification and remediation
