Job Description

Here's what you'll be doing as a Leadership Recruiter:

As a member of the Recruitment, aka, R-Team, you have one of the greatest powers and responsibilities: ensuring awe-inspiring leaders not only come through the door but decide to lend their talents to KIPP New Jersey | Miami and guide our continued development such that Camden, Newark and Miami are known as world-class cities of public education.

This role can be based in either Newark, NJ or Camden, NJ.

Relationship Building & Stakeholder Management (20%)

  • Build trusting relationships with School Leaders, hiring managers, and school based staff to foster open dialogue and mutual feedback (e.g., feedback to hiring managers or selectors on their interviewing skills; feedback to staff on their readiness for a given role).

  • Function as strategic partner to hiring managers by identifying bright spots, challenges, and dynamics that affect hiring and retention.

  • Lead weekly meetings with hiring managers once new needs are identified to devise sourcing strategies, coordinate selection processes, provide updates on prospective candidates, and advise on hiring decisions.

Strategy (20%)

  • Define, design and implement recruitment strategies and selection processes for a variety of school-based, regional, and CMO leadership roles including, but not limited to, Head of Schools, Principal in Residence, Assistant Principal, and Director-level positions.

  • Partner with Directors of Recruitment, Leadership Development and Hiring Managers to create detailed candidate profiles in order to target and evaluate active and passive candidates.

  • Collaborate with key stakeholders to identify discrete skills for various positions and experts in each to facilitate development plans for current staff who are interested in them but not yet ready

Candidate Cultivation (30%)

  • Conduct internal talent mapping to identify current staff who may be ready for promotional opportunities in to leadership seats - beginning with their school but also across the entirety of KIPP New Jersey | Miami

  • Identify, nurture, evaluate, and convert referrals from our current staff to candidates and hires

  • Organize wide-ranging proactive searches for talent using tools such as LinkedIn and resume databases to reach passive candidates

  • Define and delegate tasks to current leaders to engage passive candidates and convert to a more active stance

  • Ensure candidates have a positive experience with our process - no matter the outcome. This means:

    • Reviewing resumes on the daily

    • Immediately reaching out to high-potential candidates

    • Informing candidates about their progress throughout our process in accordance with service level agreements

    • Match candidates to roles on the basis of their respective strengths and areas for growth, and pivoting as appropriate

    • Build and leverage relationships with candidates to proactively surface and address any barriers to their acceptance

  • Maintain hiring data with fidelity and in real-time to ensure accuracy and historical relevance

Candidate Selection (30%)

  • Managing the distribution and evaluation of pre-interview performance screenings

  • Managing the invitation, travel, and logistics for high potential candidates who attend an interview day

  • Proactively and skillfully plan and execute multi-candidate, multi-selector interview days for leader seats in each of the three cities where we currently operate (Camden and Newark, NJ; Miami, FL)

  • Ensure selectors have a thorough understanding of candidates (resume, phone screen notes, and performance task) and that only the most promising come through for interview days

  • Follow-up with candidates to communicate outcomes in a timely manner and, where there might be more suitable roles, successfully pivot them to it.

  • Capture and maintain accurate candidate information on our applicant tracking and knowledge management systems to facilitate initial searches and candidate data to be used in the selection phase.


Qualifications

Skills and Characteristics

  • A demonstrated commitment to our mission and educational model, and passion for communicating it to others

  • Willingness to engage in conversations around race, equity and inclusion, and demonstrated success in both internalizing and operationalizing this focus in hiring efforts

  • Desire and ability to succeed in a fast-paced, detail-oriented, results-driven environment

  • Strong customer service-based approach to recruiting and relationship building

  • Second to none interpersonal communication skills (written and oral) to get to the heart of the matter and move the work forward

  • Humility, maturity, strong-initiative and work ethic, coupled with a healthy sense of humor

  • Solid technical skills with a proficiency in MS Office (Outlook, OneNote, Word, PowerPoint and Excel) and Google Suite

Educational Background and Work Experience

Required:

  • Bachelor's degree

  • 5-7 years of work experience in educational setting

  • Experience as a leader in an education or education/youth-development related organization

  • Track record of using data to identify opportunities and modify strategies, systems, or processes to improve results

Preferred:

  • Experience as a teacher in a public charter school or CMO setting with demonstrated results

  • Experience as a leader in a school (Dean, Assistant Principal, or School Leader)

  • Experience managing a relational database (applicant tracking system or customer relationship management system)

Weekend/evening work, local travel, and/or periodic long-distance travel for professional/team development will be required.
