PURPOSE OF JOB: Oversight of staff in the building of teacher capacity and understanding of the co-teaching service deliver models and best instructional practices to improve instruction and student achievement for students with disabilities, and to facilitate the provision of effective specialized instruction and full compliance with Individual's with Disabilities Act (IDEA).

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBLITIES:

Work with Instructional Special Education Coordinator to organize their roles and data collection. Review assignments and integration of the Co Teaching models within KCPS

Collaborate with principals in the supervision of special education teachers and co-teaching pairs and implementation of special education at individual school sites.

Provide coaching including instructional strategies, supports and teacher feedback from observations within the co-teaching and direct instruction special education classrooms.

Assist co-teaching pairs and special education teachers in creating lesson plans that highlight various co-teaching models and differentiate instruction to meet individual student needs through compliance of accommodations and modifications.

Develop a schedule for working with co-teaching pairs and special education teachers on a rotational basis and facilitate conversations using data to drive instructional decisions.

Support co-teaching and inclusion for students by working with both general education and special education teachers on how to correctly implement co-teaching models.

Collaborate with co-teaching pairs, special education teachers and school counselors for scheduling co-planning times and student schedules to ensure compliance of IEPs for students being serve mainly in the general education setting and special education setting for direct instruction.

Provide special education teacher and related service providers direct consultation and coaching regarding effective specialized instructional practices.

Collaborate with district Curriculum and Instruction department and attend regular meetings as needed

Facilitate collection of data and assist in data analysis for the purpose of program evaluation and planning.

Assist in planning and providing high quality design of professional development for special education teachers and co-teaching pairs.

Serve as Local Education Agency representative as needed in Individual Education Program (IEP) and other decision –making meetings regarding special education for individual students.

Monitor and promote compliance with the Individuals' with Disabilities Education ACT (IDEA) regulations, the Missouri Plan for Special Education, and the Local Compliance Plan.

Collaborate with colleagues outside of special education to ensure seamless support for students with disabilities, and clear communication between staff member.

Use technology effectively to manage documentation requirements.

Demonstrate effective human relations, verbal and written communication skills.

Comply with all district rules, regulations and policies.

Perform other duties and responsibilities as needed or assigned.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Master's Degree

Missouri certification in Special Education or eligible to obtain Missouri certification in Special Education within a reasonable time agreed upon

Excellent oral and written communication and interpersonal skills

Excellent organizational and time management skills

The job requires that the employee be able to: sit, stand, walk, speak, hear, use hands, fingers, reach with hands and fingers; bend, stoop, lift objects of at least ten pounds. Job requires the employee occasionally to stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. Visual ability requires mono and color vision, close vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:

LENGETH OF YEAR: 185-day calendar, 8 hrs./day, 5 days/week (regular contract year), plus 20 additional days at 8 hours per day for Extra Duty Assignment

Benefits: Health and Dental Insurance are provided. KCPS Defined Benefit Pension plan- mandatory 9% contribution is required from employee and matched by KCPS. Voluntary retirement savings plans are also available.
