Qualifications

  1. Associates degree or sixty (60) college credits.
  2. Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university (preferred). Official sealed transcripts will be required upon hire.
  3. New Jersey Department of Education Standard Certificate, Certificate of Eligibility (CE), Certificate of Eligibility with Advance Standing (CEAS) or Valid Essex County Substitute Teacher's Certificate.
  4. Applicant must be at least 20 years of age, enrolled in an accredited institution of higher education and have completed 30 semester-hour credits at the time of the application.
  5. District and State fingerprint credentialing required and clearance.
  6. Principal recommendation and evaluation by a school principal (if applicable).
  7. Ability to read, write, speak, understand, and communicate in English sufficiently to perform the duties of this position. American Sign Language or Braille may also be considered as acceptable forms of communication.
  8. Authorized to work in the USA.


Responsibilities

  1. Supervise and manage student's grades (K-12).
  2. Adhere to daily and school schedules as noted.
  3. Execute lesson plans as the curriculum dictates.
  4. Create, plan and teach lesson, if none is provided.
  5. Substitute Teachers will maintain a broad knowledge of all facets related to the teaching/educating assignment as related to the subject and grade level of the students.
  6. Return instructional materials, equipment, and keys to proper place. Leave classroom in a presentable manner.
  7. Collect and place students' completed assignments on classroom teacher's desk and note pertinent information resulting from the day's event.
  8. Implement lesson plans, while ensuring the integrity of academic time and in a manner which motivates students to learn and participate.
  9. Ensure adequate supervision to assure health, welfare, and safety of all students.
  10. Maintain and establish a safe classroom setting, promoting active learning and demonstrate good classroom management skills.
  11. Report all student's injuries, accidents, illnesses, and inappropriate behavior and discipline problems to the appropriate authority immediately or as soon as reasonably possible.
  12. Dismiss all students from the classroom/ playground before leaving the building.
  13. Perform other duties as assigned.

Salary, Terms & Affiliation

  1. Salary: Thirty (30) or Sixty (60) College credits: $130.00/day Bachelor's degree: $150.00/day
  2. Employment Period: Ten (10) Months (District requires at least 15 days of service as substitute teacher during the school year).
  3. Union Affiliation: Newark Teacher's Union (NTU)
