Department Description:

Under general supervision, the temporary employee performs routine manual and clerical work in receiving, storing and issuing supplies, materials and equipment. Assignments may involve operation of materials handling equipment and/or trucks.

These positions are located in storage facilities containing a wide variety of items in bins and/or bulk storage. The work requires continuous walking, lifting and moving of property by hand and with the aide of materials handling equipment. The primary responsibilities are directly related to receipt, storage and issue activities; however, other duties may be required such as participating in inventories, maintaining records, operating gas or electric powered materials handling equipment, and operating passenger vehicles, pickup trucks and vans in connection with pickup and delivery activities. Supervision is received from an employee of higher salary level and work is checked for accuracy and compliance with prescribed requirements and procedures.

Brief Description:

This is a Temporary, On-Call Hourly Position and not a part of any bargaining unit.

Hourly Salary: $14.19

Detailed Description:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.
  • Receives property, checks against appropriate documents, notes and reports any discrepancies in physical count, identity or condition;
  • Unpacks and stores property in proper location and manner in accordance with established routines and methods;
  • Fills orders for the activities supported by selecting and assembling designated items from stock;
  • Rearranges or relocates stock as directed to accommodate changing needs and requirements;
  • Keeps storage areas and property in clean, orderly and serviceable condition;
  • Performs a variety of other duties as required;
  • When properly qualified and licensed, operates materials handling equipment or drives passenger vehicles, pickup trucks and vans (when assigned to delivery duties employees are required to follow a strict daily schedule and have delivery form signed by authorized personnel);
  • Participates in making periodic and special inventories;
  • Maintains records of stock received, issued and on hand, and notifies supervisor when minimum levels are reached;
  • Makes simple arithmetical calculations by hand or machine;
  • Loads and unloads supplies, materials, equipment and performs other manual tasks as directed;
  • Prepares property for transport by checking for correct quantities and item identification, packing, etc.; and
  • Performs related duties as assigned.


  • Job Requirements:

  • Some familiarity with warehousing methods and practices;
  • Ability to count and check parts, supplies and equipment;
  • Ability to carry out oral and written instructions;
  • Ability to make mathematical computation with accuracy;
  • Ability to keep accurate warehouse records of limited complexity;
  • Sufficient physical strength to permit handling the items kept in stock; and
  • Must be in good physical condition to permit handling the items kept in stock.

  • EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:

    Completion of a standard high school diploma or GED, with some experience and training in warehousing, storekeeping, automotive parts storeroom or tool maintenance, including some clerical work; or any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.

    CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

    Possession of an appropriate and valid Maryland Motor Vehicle Operators License (Class B) with driving record indicating five (5) or fewer current points of which no more than three (3) shall have been accumulated as a result of traffic violations occurring while operating a Board of Education vehicle (see Prince George's County Public Schools Bulletin P-1-88, dated July 21, 1987 and Administrative Procedure 4111, dated December 1, 2015).

    SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

    No direct supervisory responsibilities.

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision such as to read handwritten or typed material, the ability to adjust focus, and depth perception. While performing the duties of this job, the employee may occasionally push or lift up to 25 lbs.

    This is an hourly position and as a reminder, temporary employees are not eligible for leave, pay for holidays not worked, or other fringe benefits. This appointment also doesn't entitle the employee to any special considerations for employment in a permanent position and service credit isn't earned.
