Our Essex Middle School is seeking a temporary one year middle grades English Language Arts teacher to join our creative, dedicated teams. Assignment for the 2021-22 school year is expected to be 7th grade. EWSD is committed to considering out of state candidates who are eligible to hold a Vermont educator license but do not yet hold license in this state.

Genuine interest, appreciation, and love of middle school students as well as a thorough understanding of middle level best practices are required. Below are some additional qualifications being sought:

- Valid VT Educator license with a middle level English Language Arts endorsement (4-19A) preferred; secondary English (2-05) and/or Elementary (1-00) endorsements also considered, but candidate must be willing to obtain the middle school endorsement. Candidates with middle school endorsement in Social Studies or other content area is also preferred. Individuals who hold a corresponding teaching license outside the state of VT shall be considered equally.
- Dedication to providing a safe, welcoming, and respectful learning environment for students.
- Commitment to the success of ALL students, and ability to understand and teach to the various learning styles of students.
- The ability and enthusiasm to effectively engage and inspire students to excel in English Language Arts.
- Familiarity and understanding of the Common Core Standards as they relate to English.
- Expertise in utilizing technology to support instruction within a middle school setting.
- Knowledge and/experience in developing standards based units, assessments, and reports, differentiated instruction to support learning for all students, and formative assessment to provide student feedback and to adjust lesson delivery.
- Excellent teaching, organizational, planning, written and oral communication, creative and collaborative skills. Ability to be a contributing member of an established interdisciplinary team.
- Commitment to continuous improvement in the areas of knowledge and professional practice and a willingness to take risks as a continuous active learner as part of our Essex Middle School community.

For column placement on the salary schedule we consider credits earned after the date of your degree (bachelor's or master's) in which you received a grade of B or better. For step placement, we grant one step for every year of previous public school teaching experience for the first five years, then one step for every two years of public school teaching experience thereafter. We also consider private school/college experience by granting one step for every two years of full-time experience in most cases.
