Job Description

PLUMBING/BOILER PREVENTATIVE MAINTENANE TECHNICIAN

FUNCTIONAL PURPOSE

The purpose of this position is to perform plumbing/mechanical work in the preventative maintenance of boilers, pumps, domestic hot water, food service equipment, sewer pumps, green houses and other associated equipment and control systems.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Performs installation, repair, and preventative maintenance on a variety of plumbing and mechanical equipment and systems.
  • Performs preventative maintenance on heating systems and components such as boilers, gas packs, ERV's, circulating pumps, hydronic pumps, ozone systems, steam systems, steam traps, return pumps, controls or control circuits, domestic hot water systems, supply lines, air compressors, and other regulating valves and sensors.
  • Performs preventative maintenance on gas fired food service equipment, ovens, flat tops, fryers, steamer ovens and steam booster heaters.
  • Keeps service truck clean and stocked with needed parts, supplies, and tools; picks up parts and supplies from vendors.
  • On occasion, assist the Maintenance Division in the clearing of snow and ice from driveways, parking lots and sidewalks.
  • Operates a computerized work order system.
  • Operates a variety of hand and power tools.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.


REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

  • Knowledge of the principles and techniques of the plumbing, electrical, and mechanical trade.
  • Knowledge of the methods, tools, parts, and equipment used in the plumbing, electrical, and mechanical trade.
  • Knowledge of the occupational hazards and related safety precautions in area assigned to work.
  • Knowledge of and ability to perform diagnostic troubleshooting of mechanical equipment, motors, and control systems.
  • Knowledge of, and the ability to service equipment operated by a variety of fuel types including LP, natural gas, and fuel oil.
  • Understanding of, and the ability to service 3-phase motors and VFD's.
  • Knowledge of hydronic systems, with the capability of diagnosing and repairing pumps and valves.
  • Ability to detect by inspection broken or worn parts.
  • Ability to read and interpret service manuals and schematic drawings.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, supervisors, and school personnel.
  • Position requires the ability to work occasional scheduled overtime and be available for emergency overtime when the need arises by responding to after-hours emergencies, which may include weekends and holidays.
  • Ability to perform basic computerized tasks to include the use of a computerized work order system that tracks time and material.


EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

  • Minimum: High School Diploma/GED AND three years' work experience in the plumbing or mechanical trade or equivalent education and trade work experience.
  • Desirable: Technical Trade Diploma (HVAC/R, Industrial Maintenance, Plumbing, or Mechanical Engineering) Applicable Technical Trade Diploma AND two years' trade work experience.


CERTIFICATION AND LICENSURE REQUIREMENTS:

  • Valid NC Driver's License


Job Qualification

Full Time | 12 Months | Pay Grade LD | Minimum $2,987 monthly
