    Our Mission: To create a culture for passionate investigators to develop solutions for the global community.

    Located in Fairchild Wheeler Park, a campus has been developed consisting of three small, but highly focused, learning communities, each of which will provide students with a STEM-based curriculum rich with relevance and correlation to existing and emerging careers. The academic character of this multi-magnet campus will reflect the region's socioeconomic strengths and incorporate challenging and innovative science, mathematics and technology projects to serve as vehicles for teaching and learning advanced academic and social skills.

    The three learning communities include:

    Information Technology and Software Engineering High School
    Students who select this theme will be engaged in the application of a systematic, disciplined, quantifiable approach to the design, development, operation and maintenance of software for careers in such fields as science modeling, gaming, animation, simulation and theater arts.

    Zoological Science, Research and Biotechnology High School
    Science for research in partnership with Beardsley Zoo and local universities on the study of amphibians, for example, will be a focus. Curriculum will be designed to heighten an awareness of the environment and to stimulate a passion to develop solutions for environmental preservation. Use of the school's natural settings will enhance laboratory and classroom instruction.

    Physical Sciences, Engineering and Aerospace/Hydrospace Science High School
    In this STEM-based program, students will learn the practical application of science and math to solve problems. Learning to use software, interacting with regional industry and collaborating with state and local universities, students will research, design and develop creative solutions for exploration and discovery.

    Instructors at the Fairchild Wheeler Inter-district Magnet Campus must be committed to fostering innovative, project-based learning centered on student participation and problem-solving. Instructors will seek new partnerships and opportunities to involve Universities and industry within their curriculum. Instructors will model excellence in personal responsibility and a commitment to lifelong learning.

    RESPONSIBILITIES :
  • Establishes and (as necessary) adjusts instructional goals and objectives, to reflect district/school goals, curriculum policies, and the knowledge, skills, progress, and needs of one's students.
  • Designs lessons that provide opportunity for problem-solving, creativity, and communication skills in relation to authentic, real-world problems.
  • Establishes and maintains standards for behavior that foster student self-discipline and positive relationships among students.
  • Commits to on-going professional development in content area and pedagogy.
  • Plans learning activities to address individual differences among students.
  • Develops, administers, and evaluates quality formative and summative assessments that reflect a balance of content knowledge and problem-solving skills.
  • Monitors, and evaluates students' progress in relation to district/school curriculum and policies and other planned goals and objectives.
  • Encourages, secures, and maintains the involvement of parents and other community members in support of instruction.
  • Involves parents in the assessment of their children's progress and needs.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

  • QUALIFICATIONS :
  • Required certification: Chemistry, Grades 7-12 (034); Master's degree preferred
  • Three years' successful teaching experience in an urban setting preferred
  • Experience in local or regional Science fairs
  • Experience in the use of educational technology
  • Excellent oral and written communication and human relations skills

  • Salary will be in accordance with the BEA contract salary schedule.
