Additional Information: This position requires extensive knowledge and experience with the Washington State Social Studies Standards and the C3 Framework. This facilitator will work closely with grade 6-12 Social Studies teachers and K-5 General Education teachers to support high-quality, standards-based Social Studies instruction for learning by providing professional growth opportunities through multiple modes; curating and creating instructional and assessment resources (digital and physical); analyzing data and determining implications; facilitating teacher groups; closely collaborating with other instructional facilitators and instructional coaches; modeling lessons and co-teaching within our 1-to-1 environment that leverages technology for blended learning as part of job-embedded professional development; and partnering with community organizations. While fulfilling this role, the K-12 Social Studies Instructional Facilitator empowers educators to think, create, share, and grow as they prepare and facilitate learning for ALL students that contributes to developing responsible citizens in a culturally diverse society fostering students understanding of their own power and their own responsibility to actively contribute to sustaining a democratic society, to good stewardship of the natural environment, and to the health and prosperity of their own communities.

Summary:

This position provides training and assistance in assigned content area to District certificated staff in effective instruction; assists teachers in the implementation of instructional strategies for delivering district curriculum and assessment content and concepts; assists in the development of District curriculum; models effective instruction; may provide professional development; and aligns curriculum and the use of assessments.

Responsibilities:

1. Serves as a member of an instructional support team to increase student achievement consistent with state standards.
2. Responds to inquiries from District staff concerning materials, teaching methods, curriculum implementation, curriculum integration, and innovative projects.
3. Plans, schedules and leads professional development at the District level to support designated content instruction aligned to Washington State Learning Standards.
4. Develops and conducts training, professional development and professional learning experiences to effect changes and improvements in elements of our standards-based system including lesson/unit design and delivery as well as District curriculum delivery.
5. Provides professional development for certificated staff on designated content and instruction with a focus on differentiation based on needs of diverse learners, using assessment as a guide.

6. Demonstrates effective instructional delivery aligned to the District instructional framework; instructs and models effective instructional practices; supports certificated staff, respecting them where they are while focusing on extending personal and collective growth.

7. Develops the capacity of teams of teachers to co-develop, adapt and/or refine resources, including curriculum and assessments, to support assigned content area instruction aligned to Washington State Learning Standards.

8. Utilizes data gathered from District assessments to guide support and assist District staff with goal setting and strengthening practices to meet the needs of all students.

9. Assists Curriculum Department Administrators in problem solving and planning program direction; collaborates with District and building administrators, other instructional facilitators, instructional coaches and teachers around effective implementation of designated District curriculum and instructional strategies to best support the needs of students' learning.

10. Models the use of, and supports teachers with, integrating instructional technology appropriately.
11. Collaborates with other content department instructional facilitators to provide an integrated program vertically and horizontally aligned; works together with external stakeholders, such as Office of Superintendent of Public Instruction and/ or institutions of higher learning, to ensure compliance with requirements and grants.
OTHER JOB DUTIES

1. Maintains knowledge of educational trends and research; provides information to District staff regarding current trends; attends district meetings as requested; participates in local, regional, and national associations, as directed; participates in a variety of professional growth activities to stay abreast of current research.
2. Performs related duties as assigned.
3. Regular, reliable, predictable attendance or physical presence is an essential job requirement and critical to the performance of the work.

CONDITIONS

Required to work flexible hours and a flexible calendar; required to occasionally transport instructional materials and equipment; required to travel to district sites; requires occasional travel outside of the city.

Education and Experience
Bachelor's degree in education and five years successful teaching experience; Master's degree or equivalent is preferred; experience in more than one grade level preferred; or any combination of experience and training which provides the applicant with the knowledge, skills, and ability required to perform the work.

Licenses/Special Requirements
Valid Washington State teaching certificate.
Valid Washington State driver's license and access to personal transportation.
Fingerprints and successful WSP and FBI background clearance/sexual misconduct clearance.
