JOB DESCRIPTION:

The position of District STEM Instructional Coach (Science and Technology Teacher on Special Assignment) will provide leadership and support for all District Science and Technology initiatives (9-12) and will work with the Supervisor of Science and Technology to implement these programs as outlined in the responsibilities described below. The position will report directly to the Supervisor of Science and Technology and Assistant Superintendent for Teaching and Learning, and will serve as a member of the Teaching and Learning Division.

REPORTS TO: Supervisor of Science and Technology

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Science/Technology Program Leadership
    • Assist in the design, support and implementation of a three-year plan for implementation of NYSSLS standards and curriculum for Science initiatives across the district.
    • Support the development and implementation of District Science and Technology curricula to ensure alignment with National and State Standards with the support of teacher leaders.
    • Support teachers through instructional coaching on pedagogy and instructional practices to meet our diverse learning population.
    • Support the design and implementation of quality, research-based professional development programs in Science and Technology for principals, coaches, teachers, and support staff.
    • Support in the design, development, and delivery of the new NYSSLS standards.
    • Analyzes data using a variety of available systems to evaluate programming and for continuous program improvement.
    • Carefully analyze student performance data and plan according to identified student needs.
    • Support the creation, delivery, and discussion of district interim science data.
    • Assist in the evaluation and selection of textbooks, software and other resources. Evaluate and recommend appropriate assessment to ensure timely screening, diagnosis and progress monitoring for students.
  • Collaboration and Communication
    • Work collaboratively with the other content area Supervisors in developing and implementing effective strategies that integrate into content areas.
    • Develop a system of communication among teachers responsible for the delivery of the Science and Technology curriculum (High School, Special Education and ENL), building administrators and district administrators.
    • Communicate with Supervisor of Science and Technology on a regular basis.
  • Professional Responsibilities
    • Remain current with the National and New York State Science, NYSSLS, and Technology Standards and effectively communicate changes to appropriate stakeholders.
    • Ensure implementation of District initiatives to comply with state standards and federal guidelines.
    • Perform other functions as assigned by the Supervisor of Science and Technology.


QUALIFICATIONS:
  • A minimum of 5 years of successful teaching experience in Science or a Related Field.
  • Broad-based knowledge of research about the teaching, learning and assessment of Science and Technology.
  • Strong working knowledge of the New York State curriculum requirements for Science and the Common Core Literacy Standards for Science and Technical Subjects.
  • Demonstrated ability to organize and provide ongoing professional development and work successfully with teachers, building administrators and district level administrators in developing and implementing a research-based Science and Technology program.
  • Extensive knowledge of principles of effective communications.
  • Demonstrated superior communication skills, both written and oral.
  • Experience in technology applications.
  • Demonstrated organizational skills.
  • Strong presentation skills and experience in developing and presenting professional development sessions.
  • Prior demonstration of exemplary attendance is expected of any candidate for hire.
  • Training and/or experience with Culturally Relevant Education (preferred)

EDUCATION AND CERTIFICATE REQUIREMENTS:
  • New York State Certificate in Science
  • Master's Degree in Science or Curriculum and Instruction preferred.


SALARY/SALARY RANGE:

This position will earn a stipend of $8,000, in addition to the current starting salary of $48,500 for SCSD Teachers. With proof of outside, related experience and college transcripts, the salary will be increased pursuant to the Unit 1 contractual agreement.
