Charter School for Applied Technologies seeks a high school Assistant Principal. The ideal candidate has a growth
mindset, is student-focused, and demonstrates leadership in promoting high levels of student achievement in urban
youth. Proficient in data-driven decision making combined with strong leadership skills in the areas of both studentcentered instruction and discipline. The candidate is a self-starter and a consensus-builder who promotes professional
learning communities that are focused on student achievement in all areas of school culture. The preferred candidate
has experience with a restorative approach to discipline and an overall vision for schoolwide student accountability and
culture.
Qualifications:
• Valid NYS Certification - School Building Leader Certification (SBL or SAS)
• No less than five (5) years' teaching experience in an educational setting (urban preferred)
• Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with staff & parents
Educational Leadership
• Considers research findings and approaches, alternatives, and consequences in the decision-making process
• Makes decisions in a timely fashion, maximizes decision effectiveness by follow-up actions and documents those
efforts
• Cleary communicates decisions and rationale to all affected
• Identifies problem areas and seeks solutions before crisis situations develop
• Effectively delegates problem-solving to appropriate personnel
• Leads and facilitates teams that work to better the school environment
• Considers multiple points of view to make equitable decisions
Curriculum, Programs, and Professional Development
• Knowledge of curriculum and resources
• Participates in and leads school-wide culture building commensurate with school initiatives
• Regularly uses the results of student data to identify problems and implement program improvements
• Emphasizes student achievement and social-emotional well-being as the primary outcome of school
• Systematically assesses and monitors student progress
• Assists with providing meaningful information to parents and others regarding student progress
• Works with staff to systematically identify and respond to at-risk students
• Makes referrals to appropriate community agencies when needed
Communication
• Is visible and accessible, listens and responds appropriately to staff, student, and community concerns
• Respects differences of opinion and fosters open communication among staff
• Communicates effectively with students and staff individually and in groups
• Reviews data with school personnel and community in gauging school climate
