The Content Lead for Visual and Performing Arts supports Hamilton County's 200 Arts educators in all HCS schools as they facilitate achievement in the arts and progress toward goals of the district strategic plan. The functions of the role encompass Teaching and Learning activities, cultivation and maintenance of local, state, and national partnerships, and producing public-facing events in several art-forms.

Responsibilities

  • Teaching & Learning - Provide instructional leadership and develop local-level interpretation of the Tennessee Academic Standards for Fine Arts in Music, Visual Art, Theatre, and Dance in K-12th grades. The Content Lead will oversee the continuous development of curriculum guides and associated assessments for each strand of the standards and provide curriculum support in each area. Support activities will include:
  • Cultivating Partnerships- Collaboration with various stakeholders to practice advocacy and cultivate new opportunities for students. Includes annual travel to conferences and honor ensemble events to cultivate state presence, glean best practices and advocate for local support.
  • Internal advocacy and collaboration with district departments including Federal Programs, HR, Finance, Payroll, Teaching & Learning, and special programs
  • Local partnerships: with various Arts and cultural organizations and businesses (contests, program development, etc.)
  • State partnerships: TN Council of Visual & Performing Arts Supervisors, TN Music Educators Association, TN Art Education Association
  • National partnerships: Kennedy Center Partners in Education and Ensuring the Arts for Any Given Child
  • Public-Facing Events- Collaborate with teachers and local venues to produce annual performances and events to feature students, facilitate district funding for events. Some evening / weekend work will be required in order to provide visibility at district and community art events. To include, but not limited to:
  • Hamilton Sings Elementary Honor Choir
  • HCS Choral Festival
  • All-County Honor Bands
  • HCS Arts Honors Night
  • Continue to develop Portfolio Day and Theatre Fest

Other Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Budgeting Federal funds
  • Purchasing, receiving, and distributing materials
  • Securing grants within district policies and procedures
  • Maintaining various data points showing achievement and growth in Arts programs
  • Maintaining current course code catalog for K-12 Arts courses and serving as a resource to school counselors and administrators in the coding and scheduling process
  • Being on-call to HCS school administrators for acute and emergent teacher support and advising in the hiring process
  • Being on-call to district leaders with program data and proprietary information

Qualifications

Knowledge/Education/Experience:
  • Candidates must hold a bachelor's degree.

Skills/Qualifications:
  • Committed to high artistic achievement/independent musicianship, and high expectations for all learners.
  • Able to represent Hamilton County schools with excellence in various settings and for diverse audiences.
  • Able to cultivate a team mentality among all HCS Arts educators and communicate effectively with colleagues, supervisors, students, and families. Must adopt a district-wide view and collaborate with district leaders, school administrators, and other stakeholders.
  • Open to being coached and receiving feedback in order to advance learning and growth for teachers and the Fine Arts program. Actively seek best practices and professional learning resources in all arts areas and related fields (ie. SEL, STEM/STEAM, Arts Integration, etc.)
  • Professional with high personal standards and integrity. Commitment to supporting all art forms equitably and to not favor one over others through allocation of resources (including time, effort, and attention).
  • Proactive and creative problem-solver, win-win thinker, and indefatigable advocate.
