NATURE OF POSITION:
Works with students with various academic levels. Creates and maintains a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the ability level of the student. Plans a program of learning experiences that will assist in achieving SOL skill development and progression for students in all of the areas of History and Social Science.

Candidates selected for this position must physically report to the I.W. Taylor Virtual Academy building daily.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Design the Virtual Instruction Program so that it is consistent with the total educational philosophy of the district.
  • Develop, implement, and evaluate the Virtual Instruction Program's curriculum, schedule, philosophy, goals, and objectives reflecting school, District and state goals.
  • Continue professional growth through self-directed, as well as defined professional development opportunities, which may include additional training, professional learning communities, outside research, and reading professional literature.
  • Assist with school-wide data analysis, as part of a professional development needs assessment,
  • Implement instructional activities that contribute to a positive environment where students are actively engaged in meaningful learning experiences.
  • Provide differentiated instruction to meet the needs of all students.
  • Collaborate with the instructional team concerning student educational needs as requested.
  • Clearly articulates deadlines, schedules, and procedures to students and parents to ensure that students complete coursework in a timely manner.
  • Assist site administrator with student placement.
  • Uses a variety of programs and software applications, as appropriate, to complete instructional and administrative tasks.
  • Communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, with students, parents, and other professionals.
  • Work with students and parents in a positive, proactive manner.
  • Provide direct consultation and guidance to students and parents on matters relating to courses, procedures, and learning strategies.
  • Assist in providing information to community groups, schools, or parents about the Virtual Academy Program.
  • Participate in community-based extracurricular activities as requested.
  • Evaluate student performance on a regular basis and providing feedback to students and parents.
  • Ensures that student growth and achievement is continuous and appropriate for age group, subject area, and/or program classification.
  • Ensure that each student enrolled in the Virtual Academy Program has accurate, up-to-date records.


TECHNICAL REQUIREMENTS


  • Knowledge and practical experience with using videoconferencing applications such as Zoom or Google Meet in a K-12 setting.
  • Knowledge and practical experience with modern Learning Management Systems such as Blackboard, Schoology, or preferably Canvas
  • Extensive experience with Google G-Suite tools
  • Experience creating and editing creative instructional videos using tools such as Youtube and FlipGrid
  • Experience using digital document cameras, specifically HoverCams
  • Experience using online assessment tools such as NWEA MAPS and Performance Matters
  • Experience using online textbook platforms such as:

  3. FIve Ponds Press
  4. Discovery Education
  5. McGraw Hill ConnectEd



  • Basic configuration and troubleshooting of computer hardware and peripherals

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
Ability to communicate effectively with all stakeholders in the Virtual Academy Program in written and oral form, including electronic media, using positive interpersonal skills. Highly skilled at implementing exemplary educational practices resulting in demonstrated student achievement gains. Ability to organize, prioritize, manage and carry out duties efficiently and within established time frame. Ability to use effective strategies in differentiating instruction. Knowledge of curriculum and instructional best practices for online learning. Exhibit knowledge of standards-based curriculum and instructional programs and practices for elementary, middle and high school levels. Demonstrate operational knowledge of Internet and Web-related technologies. Ability to establish and maintains cooperative working relationships with students, parents, and schools. Demonstrate effective data-based problem solving skills.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited college or university
  2. Valid Virginia teaching license with an endorsement in the appropriate area


START DATE: 2021 - 2022 School Year
SALARY / STIPEND: Consistent with the 2021-2022 DPS Teacher Salary Scale, depending on experience and advanced degrees. In addition, the Danville School Board pays the employee cost in full, for state-mandated life insurance; and in part for state retirement and for health insurance. Other benefits include sick leave and personal leave.
