  • The Academy at St. Joan of Arc seeks a Primary Teacher who is enthusiastic about being part of Catholic education innovation. The Academy is looking for a dedicated team who wants to be a member of a dynamic team and who can instill the love of literacy within their students. The Academy is a vibrant independent Catholic elementary school on Chicago's North Shore.

    The Academy is uniquely governed by an independent Board of Directors. The nine-member Board is comprised of current and former school parents, select leaders from outside the school with specific subject matter expertise and a representative from the Archdiocese of Chicago. At the heart of the Academy at St. Joan of Arc is the understanding of the importance of a curriculum that emphasizes both faith and reason. The Academy at St. Joan of Arc embraces a Christ-centered curriculum in a values-based environment structured on Catholic teachings. The Academy at St. Joan of Arc provides a premier elementary school experience built around the way students worship, learn and live.

    A. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required
    1. Comprehensive knowledge of curriculum and/or experience in instructional strategies for implementing grade-specific literacy programs for students in grades 1, 2 or 3;
    2. Excellent communication (both oral and written) and interpersonal skills to effectively communicate with students and parents;
    3. A positive attitude, as well as an ability to collaborate well with colleagues;
    4. A consistent and fair in approach to all students, parents, etc. while ensuring an appropriately disciplined positive environment;
    5. Experience with web-based learning, particularly through the use of laptops, chromebooks and other technology in the classroom;
    6. A passion for learning and sharing knowledge with others.
    B. Primary Responsibilities
    1. Cultivate a hunger for knowledge as well as encourage curiosity among students and engage them to learn;
    2. Oversee the middle school students in daily class schedule and provide guidance as needed;
    3. Know and use a wide range of assessment strategies consistent with course content and objectives;
    4. Provide reports on student progress and maintain open communication with families and administration by communicating in a clear and supportive manner;
    5. Demonstrate effective organizational skills including, but not limited to, lesson planning, implementing units of study, differentiating instruction, designing and implementing assessments;
    6. Utilize technology to promote learning, creativity and collaboration;
    7. Demonstrate interest in promoting academic excellence and faith formation in a K-8 environment, including participation in Academy faculty meetings and school events;
    8. Expand educational knowledge including through participation in in-services as well as other teaching training sessions, conferences, webinars, etc., in order to stay up to date on best practices to be implemented in the classroom.

    Qualified candidates will have a minimum of a bachelor's degree (preferably a Master's) in education or related content area, as well as required current Illinois state license/certification.
