POSITION SUMMARY: This position maintains and schedules the use of audio visual equipment and software, supervises, and instructs student aides in the operation and maintenance of audio-visual equipment, and serves as an assistant to the school librarian. The position assists teachers and students in finding books or other materials, and maintains the library in a neat and efficient condition. The position oversees students and adult volunteers and may be responsible for the operation of the library in the absence of the assigned librarian.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. This list is meant to be representative, not exhaustive.   • Schedule and coordinate the use of audio-visual equipment and software by teachers and students. Ensure that materials are returned. Operate video taping equipment to record television programs or classroom activities as requested by teachers.Monitor the use of library materials and audio-visual equipment.Perform periodic inventory of material. Assist librarian in developing and processing new orders.Research and assist librarian in selecting audio-visual equipment.Identify malfunctions in audio-visual equipment. Send equipment out for repair as needed. Make minor repairs and perform preventive maintenance.Assist teachers and students in locating books or other materials and in use of library computers. Check library materials in and out. Reshelf books and materials. Collect fines on overdue materials.Process new books received. Enter data into computer using the Follette or other software programs. Perform routine maintenance of data files and records on library materials. Maintain records of video tapes. Notify teachers of new books received in the library. Mend books and magazines.Oversee work of student aides and adult volunteers. Provides direction and supervision of the library in the absence of the school librarian.Maintain current knowledge of computers and software, in order to assist students and troubleshoot minor computer problems.

OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Serves as a member of the Library Services Team of the District.Performs related duties consistent with the scope and intent of the position

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Education and Experience
Completion of a two-year college program of training in library science or audio-visual technology, or closely related library experience.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
Basic Microsoft WORD and EXCEL
Positive evaluations

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Three (3) years of school-based experience
Bachelor's degree

CONDITION OF EMPLOYMENT:
Criminal background clearance
Washington Driver's License
Work scheduled hours on a consistent basis

While performing the duties of this job, the employee will frequently sit, stand and walk, bend neck and back, squat, kneel, and use hands for fine manipulation and repetitive grasping and pushing/pulling. The employee will occasionally be required to climb stairs/ladder, lift and reach overhead, and lift/carry. The employee must constantly lift/carry up to 5 lbs and must frequently lift/carry up to 10 lbs and occasionally lift/carry a maximum of 20 lbs. The employee is occasionally required to push/pull a maximum force of 100 lbs.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works in indoor conditions and intermittently works near video display. The employee occasionally may be exposed to outdoor weather conditions. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. Position occasionally requires exposure to angry, frustrated, or aggressive individuals, typically in a school classroom environment.

WORK SCHEDULE:
This position works 180 days per year

REPORTING RELATIONSHIP:
Position reports directly to and is evaluated by the Principal or building designee with input from the Librarian
