Bilingual/ESL Teacher Assistant (Grade: 6-8) Base Calendar

The Dallas ISD Board of Trustees on Jan. 28adopted three calendars for the next two school years, with the majority of schools set to have a traditional calendar. Click the appropriate calendar below to see your campuses schedule for the 2021-2022 School Year:

  1. Assist teachers in preparing instructional materials and classroom displays for English learner students in Dual Language, ESL and Sheltered classrooms
  2. Provide support to English learner students and families/guardians with diverse language needs
  3. Under direct supervision of a highly-qualified/certified teacher, conduct instructional exercises assigned by the teacher for English learner students; work with these students individually or in small groups
  4. Keep the teacher informed of special needs or problems of individual English learner students
  5. Provide in-class language support for English learner students at different language proficiency levels
  6. Assist Bilingual ESL and Sheltered teachers with interventions and tutoring on an as needed basis for EL students
  7. Participate in staff development training programs to improve job performance (i.e. campus PDs, PLCs, SIM Training)
  8. Participate in faculty meetings and special events related to English learner students as assigned
  9. Perform all other tasks and duties related to English Learners as assigned


All federally funded incumbents of this position must comply with time and effort reporting requirements through personnel activity reports or periodic certification, as appropriate.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: Directly supervises none

EDUCATION: High School diploma or equivalent (U.S.A. equivalency), plus Associate degree, or 48 credit hours or pass an academic assessment

Qualifications

Accredited High School Diploma or equivalent (U.S.A. equivalency), plus one of the following: Associate degree, 48 credit hours, or pass an academic assessment

Paraprofessional certificate required from State Board of Certification

Ability to successfully complete assignments with general supervision

Demonstrated general knowledge of child growth/development and behavior characteristics

Ability to communicate effectively in written and verbal format

Demonstrated ability to work with people from diverse ethnic groups

Demonstrated initiative and a willingness to follow verbal and written instructions

Demonstrated organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills required to achieve the goals of the position

Knowledge of district organizations, operations, and administrative policies preferred

Bilingual (English/another language) preferred

EXCLUDED FUNDING-RELATED DUTIES:
  • Substituting for the classroom teacher/acting as a permanent sub
  • Translation services
  • Lunch duty
  • Campus security services
  • Other duties not covered by Title III
